Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

How is not travelling to the USA cutting off our nose to spite him?

And how are canadian companies that depend on the US effected by people not travelling to the USA?

Closer and friendlier ties with the US helps Canadian companies that depend on the US market and their population. Cutting ties harms Canadians more than Americans.

Canadians on places like Reddit and Twitter who argued they need to travel to the US for lower priced food items because they were poor got accused of treason and not being Canadian. Meanwhile our Prime Minister has millions of dollars tied up in US stock and investments.

Trump has everyone so upset many are ready to cut off their own nose to spite him while letting Canadian companies that depend on the US crash and burn.

It should be fun times as we enter "the new world order*" and that marinates for a few years. Can't wait to come back to that decision long after the aftertaste of Trump is gone.

* PMMC announced after recent CCP visit

I always wondered why "some" here seem more

So....Canadians don't visit the USA. American companies, in their board rooms look at this and decide not to buy Canadian goods?

To quote someone smarter than me “anyone who thinks that Trump is an aberration is an idiot”.

We need to work with that in mind. This will be the new normal for a very long time regardless of who will be in power next.

Agreed.

America has moved into the 7th party system, and these things tend to last a generation or two.

True, to a point. At this time Canada is too dependant on a single fickle trade partner. It's a single point of failure that is being used against us by an administration that likes to throw it's weight around like a schoolyard bully.

By diversifying our trade partners, we give Canadian businesses alternative opportunities to trade with other nations, as well as America.

In the case of Chinese EVs, it's a direct shot across the bow to the US auto manufacturers that are pulling work/production out of Canada at the behest of the American administration. By opening the door to companies like BDY we are showing those companies that actions have repercussions. Essentially, if America doesn't want us to make cars here, we will buy them elsewhere...

People being assholes on Twitter and Reddit isn't new, and definitely isn't limited to this topic. The more obnoxious and combattive your argument, the more attention it gets.

Do employees of Canadian companies visit the US in person for:
  • Sales and client meetings
  • Supply chain coordination
  • Trade shows and conferences
  • Subsidiaries and offices; and
  • Professional services

?

What's stopping them from going?

My comment is directed at those who visit the USA for leisure, not business.

Yup. It's a typical mentality similar to people lamenting about capitalism from their $2949.00 IPhones and $1975 Canada Goose jackets.

I'll take Trump anyday over CCP.

I’ll take neither. With either, we’re going to get hooped with no lube.

Lots of other countries we should be making deals with.

It’s certainly a thing and they all do it. The fact that Nissan knows everything about my car without me even having to go in is disconcerting but sadly a reality.

Those companies want my information to sell me stuff. State capitalist companies, like those in the PRC, will have more nefarious uses for my information.

I'm going down for tourism/leisure. The NE Free Jacks are playing the Atlantic Privateers in an exhibition Rugby match and our new OBs club, The Ancient Mariners is playing the Boston Irish Wolf Hounds before hand.

Were playing at veterans stadium in Quincy. It will be pretty fun. Not to mention a few nights on the lamb in Boston! Look out Southie!

Examples?

The difference right now is Trump can offend every Canadian's sensibilities with ease... the next guy probably won't. The outcomes much the same.

Does Canada want to be in the fold of the US or China? Which provides the overall best benefit? A protectionist USA is still the far better option than the CCP.

Oh, that's what you really meant. You weren't very clear when you simply said:
"It's good that cross border trips to the USA from Canada continue to plummet then."

Also:
"And how are canadian companies that depend on the US effected by people not travelling to the USA?"

Examples?
Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, India, etc., and that's just in the Indo-Pacific.

When you look toward the EU, and more broadly Europe there are plenty more nations.

China makes some sense in that we are selling things to them, but we need to be very careful about what we buy from them.

My brother in christ, I made that comment in regards to limitations being put in place to prevent Chinese EVs owned by Canadians crossing into the USA.

How many damn businesses do you think would be crossing into the USA for a business meeting in a chinese EV?

For the love of all that is holy...
