He’s also friends with Vance. He can't do much not being part of the cabinet and also a backbencher in his own party, but he won't be going in entirely ignorant.

All for it.
Unfortunately, the inverse has occurred in recent years, insomuch that the Loyal Opposition under the CPC (and it's leaders) has taken the name literally; often opposing legislation that is in-line or adjacent to their own platforms.Which is a recipe for disaster in the Westminster Parliamentary system...

If the opposition is not continually on the government like a terrier on a rat colony then you get something like... BC![]()

The Opposition serves to question and influence government business on behalf of and in the interest of the Crown (and the subject thus represented).
Turning the nose up at legislation that is for the betterment of the Canadian interest, strictly because it comes in one colour wrapping vice another, is not their raison d'etre.

If they don’t get the ‘big 3’ onside with this approach they will start to lose market share here. With Toyota and Honda shifting largely to hybrids and plugin hybrids, they stand to gain the most out of this approach.Nature is healing...
Prime Minister Mark Carney is repealing Canada's electric vehicle mandate that required all new car sales to be electric in a decade, scrapping another Trudeau-era environmental policy.
Instead, Carney is taking his own approach by introducing stronger greenhouse gas emission standards for vehicle models 2027-32 to encourage automakers to produce more zero-emission vehicles.
"Canada will set a new, more ambitious sovereign path to reduce automobile emissions," Carney said at a news conference at an auto parts manufacturer in the Greater Toronto Area.

The new policy is literally a reversal of exactly that. EV or PhEV will be incentivized by a government subsidy, but will still compete against straight ICE. Give it another read.Translation: we’re not going to force you to buy an EV, but an EV or zero-emission vehicle is all you’ll be able to buy.
I’ll hang onto my gas guzzlers thanks.
I see you know how to Nova Scotia....the grid is getting increasingly fragile, with a lot of 50+ year old lines that are failing fairly regularly with fun things like transformers failing catastrophically.
how realistic are the new emissions goals and can they be done on a limited edition basis. Ford makes millions of vehicles per year but only a small proportion of them end up here in Canada. So being able to add it on as the car goes down the line is important. The new policy is literally a reversal of exactly that. No idea. I gather some states have certain higher standards? Maybe there are production line differences that can be piggybacked upon?how realistic are the new emissions goals and can they be done on a limited edition basis. I can still hear the lines around my old place in the north end buzz loudly in the salt fog when I think about it.I see you know how to Nova Scotia.

In the past California set the standard and then everyone else followed suit. Now?No idea. I gather some states have certain higher standards? Maybe there are production line differences that can be piggybacked upon?
And a lot of bases as well...I see you know how to Nova Scotia.
