It's a busman's holiday, more then a few Canadian politicians have attended both the Democratic and Republican conventions.As well as going out on the Campaign trail.

That's a misleading comparison.

Canadian MPs attending both US party conventions is normal diplomatic/political networking. Housefather actively campaigned for a specific US candidate in their primary. Those aren't equivalent activities.
