In the 8 CH (PL) in Petawawa in the Fall of 1977, A Sqn was Ferret, with three five-car troops. When we got back from Cyprus in the Spring of 1979, the Ferrets were gone, and Recce Sqn became A Sqn, took jeeps on Ex to Borden, then six new Grizzlies to train drivers in Sep, then four Cougars to train two serials of gunners (shift work) in Jan 1980.
In the fall of 1977, B Sqn was three seven car troops - six Lynx, and an M113A1 for the Tp Ldr (reason: the AN/PPS-15 GSR box would not fit in the Lynx).
I think we went all Lynx in 1980 (give or take), when somebody said "So, don't bring the box?"
In the Fall of 1977, C Sqn was the Trg Sqn, with a load of TQ3s (including yours truly) and also provided a 60 Regtl Recce Tp on order.
B Sqn became D Sqn in the Spring of 1978, just before going to Ft Hood Texas to qual on the M60A1 with Tank Table VIII.
Just before we went to Cyprus in the Fall of 1978, we changed the name to Recce Sqn, as we changed from Recce Regts back to Armoured Regts, to await the AVGP Cougar.
I have the "Light Armoured Regt" pam around here someplace. Bloody house is turning into a museum.
