List the occupations you wish to apply for...

As part of my transfer from reserve to reg force I have to submit choices of occupations I want to apply for.  Right now my list is pilot, infantry and artillary.  I was wondering, if I pass aircrew selection is there any chance they wouldn't offer me pilot and give me infantry or artillary instead?  I know all 3 are trades they're hiring for, and as much as they keep saying they need pilot's everything's pretty backed up for the flight schools.  Or if they're hiring for your #1 choice and you qualify is it more or less guaranteed that's what they'll offer you?

Pilot's far and away the trade I want, so if there's a risk of this I might only put pilot on this application.  Then, if I'm not accepted I would go through another application (jump through all the hoops again) for infantry/arty.  Right now I'm slated for the september 06 botc (deo so I can't do the summer course apparently), so a second application could probably still be done in time for me to get in for september.

Thanks

How can you be slated for an IAP/BOTP if you haven't submitted your application yet?  If you are assessed as suitable and pass CFASC then you will most likely get pilot.  If you don't pass CFASC there will be time to select other choices.  The reason you can't do the BOTP in the summer is because that is when the ROTPs go.

I just went over this in the interview.

I had Pilot as #1, and Armour as #2.

They asked, if you get a call after the slection board saying you had armour, would you take the position within 24 hours?

My answer was pretty simple... No. Pilot is a first choice, Armour is a low second. I'd definitely wait for another board, then perhaps re-apply and only when pilot had been exhausted for me, would I take armour.

The Lt. said that the board would be wasting its time, and the CF its money in processing an armour application for me if I wasn't going to jump at the oppertunity as soon as they offered it to me.

Thanks for the input guys.  Guess I'll push through a pilot only application for now and keep getting ready for acs.

And you're right kincanucks, obviously I haven't been loaded onto iap/botc yet.  September 06 is what I'm expecting since I've already missed the board for the january course and, like you said, summer is for botc only.

I've heard rumors they're having another board in december for pilot applicants only, but I'm going to need until feb/march to finish my master's anyway so january's out for me.

Good luck jmnavy. I know they encourge you to apply for more than one but go for what your interested in first. They'll make other offers if you don't get 032 I'm sure.

Way off topic but...I like the new avatar Kincauncks. Need something stronger than the tea?  8)

When I joined up I also put pilot as my number 1 choice along with 5 other trades on my list. They called me up and offered me Air Operations and it took me 2 years after I was in before I went to aircrew selection. A long time I know, but worth it now...

All I`m saying is that you will probably go to aircrew selection before getting sworn in as I hear from the other DEOs I know. Therefore, if you pass the pilot portion you should be offered a pilot spot. Good luck and practice those flight sims :salute:

Just a little reminder from my UK trip.  Cheers.

Dropped off the paper work today.  I talked with a cpl there about it and he gave me more or less the same advice. He said that if I don't get through acs that they'll give me a chance to chose another trade later anyway, so for now it's easier to only put pilot and keep things simple.

The exception was air navigator.  Since this trade also required acs he said if it was going to be one of my alternates that I should put it on right away.

I saw another post by someone who'd wanted pilot but got offered artillery in spite of passing acs.

guess this should be a warning to all pilot applicants; don't make a laundry list of 'other occupations'.  Keep it simple.
