From the 23rd of Augest to the 31st, the 39th CBG is having a Live Fire Excercise at CFB Wainright

my questions are

1.) How would we get down there? Bus or Plane?

2.) By the time, I would have completed my BMQ course, so am I able to particpate in the live fire stuff?

3.) What usually happens during a live fire excercise? an what do they shoot at(targets set up all over a field?)

also, anyone else from the 39th going on this Ex?

D-N-A:

1. if you‘re doing the combined BMQ/SQ at Seaforth this summer, you will NOT be able to go on the ex. The dates don‘t work for both.

2. since you won‘t have passed a PWT if you don‘t do the SQ, there‘s no way you would be allowed to do live fire. Also, I‘m told you need to do the PWT 3 to do the live fire, which is usually only done by the infantry, and is not covered in your unit, or on the SQ.

3. You‘re in a service battalion in a service trade, so it‘s doubtful even if you were MOC qualified that you would be doing live fire section attacks. In our unit, only trained infantry privates (1 chevron plus) are going to be doing the live fire stuff, so an un-hooked service private won‘t be a really likely candidate.

Don‘t mean to burst your bubble on that one, but there will be other opportunities in the future to be on an ex like that, even if you‘re not doing the live fire stuff.

oh, thanks for the info Combat_Medic

would they need GD‘s at the ex though? doing anything?

I always thought that SVN BN‘s fired on live fire excercises, I know they wouldent be doing attacks or anything, but defense stuff though? like if their convoy get‘s attacked/ambushed

oh well

as far as I know, I‘m just doing the BMQ course, that runs from July7th-Augest 1st at the seafourth, I havent been told anything about going on SQ

How do you get there?

In the old days we would arrive in style with a night jump, mark the LZ and secure for the main force.
Then we would steamroll over the objective with massive force and firepower and exfiltrate via Chinook.
Home in time for breakfast.

Now, I take the bus.

Sign of the times eh? Ruck up has been changed to start your engines. :cam:

Live fire attacks for reservists take an entire year of workup training. Our regiment just spent the training year doing exactly that. For an infantry company, you start with pairs - dry firing, then blank firing, then live firing, then you you work up to sections, then platoons.

You don‘t do all this in one weekend, you take many weekends to practice at each level. Our final exercise of the year was the payoff. Because of a reschedule due to weather and trying to co-ordinate with the artillery, engineers and armour who would also provide "live" support, many of us missed the final one.

But it is not something you just jump into; many units may not feel they have the time to invest.

There is also a gateway aspect - if you miss the pairs live fire, or you don‘t qualify to Level III on the one weekend the unit has on the range, you‘re useless for the rest of the training.

thanks for the info Michael Dorosh

I guess I gotta wait till my CT goes through to Reg Force(Infantry) goes through before I get to do one of these
