Loadsa "independents" on the Ballot Discussion (split from PP by-election)

Very accountable, go over the speed limit and you are paying heavy fines. I suspect most Canadians would not want to live under their very rule-bound system.
Which is also a system they actively choose to support. The beauty of the Swiss system is their people choose the path and they can also change it at will. It could have very loose rules or alternatively it could have more restrictive rules, but all is decided by the public.

Will it survive a court challenge?

Since I am no lawyer (not even a jailhouse one) I will leave it to the lawyers.
Hard to say. It would depend on whether the legislation is viewed by the court as being a Section 1 'reasonable limitation' on Section 3 democratic rights.

Section 3 is pretty broad:

3. Every citizen of Canada has the right to vote in an election of members of the House of Commons or of a legislative assembly and to be qualified for membership therein.

but there are some rulings on placing rules around it, such as age limitations.
