Recently there was a thead " Freemasonary in the MOB".
This thread was locked by a "directing staff" for reasons I believe were just.
After being locked there was 3 aditional posts by 2 other "directing staff".
If a post is locked, leave it locked or if you feal like re-opening it, re-open it to everyone not just "directing staff". To do other wise just leaves me fealing that justice is running away with itself.

Best Wishes

X Royal,

In fact, that is our general policy. However to Staff, a locked thread still looks exactly like all others, with a small note about it being locked. As a result, it's very easy for Staff to post to a locked thread without realizing it was locked.

Cheers

Mike thanks for your quick reply.
All I was saying was from what I read it did not seam quite fair.
Thanks for the explaination.

Agreed, and we do honestly make make an effort not to do that, but sometimes it slips through.

I was thinking the same question a few months ago when i saw it happen with some other threads!  Forgot about it then, but now my curiosity is satisfied...

On the same note Mike.. is there a way of labelling the post as locked with the name of the person who locked it?? That way if it might be "unjustly" locked I can send a kind personal message explaining why I think it should be unlocked/or another post added?  I mean.. I saw a topic I made a comment in locked.. so I dropped a line to my favourite DS "recce by death"... thinking it might have been his locking as he was a part of the discusson.. he had no clue as to what thread I was referring to!! And as a bonus, it wasn't even him that locked it!!

Thanks for your time

I had that problem as well... Mainly because the staff that I believed locked it was the only person to have responded in the post. Fortunately, I got the information in a roundabout way. I can also see the downside to that though, the person harrassing the other.

Again, as a general rule the Staff will post in a thread they lock, esp. if it's not immediately clear why the lock is being applied. We'll try to keep your comments in mind moving forward, though I can't promise we'll annotate every locked thread as often it's pretty clear what's going on and why.

Thanks
Mike

Also, the Mod may lock it and then go on vacation...

Any Mod can unlock a thread, which makes for a more timely response. Typically, if the Mod receiving the request is unaware of the circumstances they will try and decipher it, consider your request, and unlock the thread if applicable. They may choose to leave it locked, and insert your (reasonable) response. Invariably, they will let the other Mods know what is going on.

Anytime that I've wanted a locked thread opened, I've PMed a MOD with the request.  Stated the reason why I wanted the thread reopened.  I've never had any difficulties.

A lot of times, the mod will post a "end of discussion - thread locked" comment as the last post.. that's a good practice.  Maybe an SOP that something like that be put on the end of every locked thread? On the plus side.. it allows them all to jack up their post count!! Haha
