I recently graduated from an Electronics Technology program and continuing onto university to get my bachelors, however, I'm still interested in having a career change.

I've been looking all over the websites and I can't seem to find information, so here's the question...

I'm looking to join the reserves on a part time and then possibly enter a career of a Medical Lab Technician. I have all the qualifications from high school [math, physics, chemistry and biology]. Is it possible?

I am fairly sure that this Trade is not offered in the Reserves.  You would have to check with the local Reserve Medical Unit and the CFRC for the answer.

It's not offered in the reserves.  One also has to be a Certified Laboratory Technologist prior to enrolment - skilled entry, in other words.

He never said he wanted to join Reserves as a Med Tech... Just pointing it out, don't shoot me!  ::)

You should be able to pull it off with the prerequisites.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
"You must be a Certified Laboratory Technologist with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS). "

I would then wonder what the title of this thread, in a military forum would mean otherwise?

Right but even then it doesn't say he wants to be a reservist Med Tech he just says he wants to be trained as one. Which he could do, while being in the reserves.  :P

Pull one more thread off track with bullshit like this and you're going on the warning ladder.

Thanks for the info guys. That's really too bad.

What are some of the other medical fields that one could be trained as when joining the reserves?

Here are a few suggestions from the Recruiting website (searched under Part time & Health Services):

http://www.forces.ca/html/index.aspx?sm1=2&sm2=0&sm3=&sid=81&lang=en&b0=1&d1=1

Biomedical Electronics Technologist
Dental (Officer)
Health Care Administration (Officer)
Medical (Officer)
Medical Technician
Nursing (Officer)
Pharmacy (Officer)

You'll need to check your local reserve units whether these trades are available though.

wow...so it seems that the only medical career i can have in the reserves, if someone comes with only a high school background or a commerce degree in university is just medical tech? that sucks :/

I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure I don't want an electronics technologist performing my root canal, or mixing my prescriptions.  ;D
