If you go overseas and find an assault rifle on a dead person (its hard to say more) or on the ground, are we allowed to take it? Either to base or back to Canada?

What do you think? I mean really think about it, then tell us what you think the answer is.

Then again, if you anticipate simply scooping up rifles left on the ground (or any other mysteriously abandoned objects of value) you may really not have any idea. Along with not coming home with the rifle you intended to take, you may find yourself coming home with no arms, or no life.

NO NO NO NO NO. For the following reasons

#1. Good chance said person, weapon or shiny kit is booby trapped. Often times in Bosnia, people setting up such booby traps put kit INTENTIONALLY DESIGNED to attract soldiers to pick it up!!! Picking it up = dead or maimed horribly

#2. Just because you‘re a soldier, it gives you NO exemption from the firearms regulations in terms of owning or shipping prohibited firearms. 99/100ths of the weapons in most militarys are illegal to own in Canada, certainly at your age = possible prison sentence, dishonourable discharge from the military

#3. Disrespect for the dead. Want someone pillaging your dead corpse? = Severe reprimand, possible court martial

#4. If any investigation is to take place, you just tampered with the evidence = court martial

So, you‘re either dead, maimed, drummed out of the army, in prison, or a combination of the above. Get the point?

like what was said before, it‘s against the rules, an there‘s a very good chance the weapon you see on the ground is attached to a tripwire or whatever.

also, it‘s not just weapons that are booby trapped, anything from, weapons, toys, tin cans, flags, etc can be booby trapped

also, just cause your over sea‘s(even in a war) doesnt mean your exempt from law

That was one of the first things that we learnt in basic!!! no looting, or taking or such

Well I guess someone had the mine awarness training :D

Well, combat_medic‘s post was pretty much the last one of relevance in this thread. No further analogies, or echoing of sentiments will make it any more apparent that lifting dead-man‘s kit will give you sh|t.

Jeez, I went ahead and did it myself. Sorry for getting drivel on anyone standing too close.

Cheers.

Booby trapped like in the book "We were soldiers once...and young" where the vietnamese somehow got his grenade attached to his rifle so no one could take it. Lucky ppl in WWII...they could loot.

You think that people were lucky because they were allowed to pillage people‘s dead corpses without consequence?

OK, please don‘t join the military... ever!

what were you asking?
and how would one go about about getting spaz?

He was asking about if you could steal, loot and pillage off of dead bodies in combat or overseas, then was disappointed to find out he couldn‘t.

ahh, thanks, i thought he was saying that he was just asking in regard to his previous (sad and disgusting  ) post.
thanks for the clari. combat_medic

It is nice to hear that all the mine awareness training I have conducted did not go to waste.

If you did‘nt drop it don‘t pick it up!!!
