Medal lost on Remembrance Day returned to veteran

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — An unknown Good Samaritan has found and returned a special Dutch medal lost by a Peterborough, Ont., Second World War veteran on Remembrance Day.

Ward James, 88, had lost the medal given to him by a community in Holland for his part in the liberation of that country.

His family frantically retraced his steps after Remembrance Day ceremonies Thursday, thinking he had lost the medal at a local mall.

After a public appeal, someone turned in the medal to the Peterborough Manor Retirement Residence.

"I think it was lost when I got out of the car at Peterborough Manor in the parking lot at the home where a big seat belt caught it," James said.

He plans on getting the clasp fixed next week.

Great to see he got it back in a timely manner, and that there are still quite a few good samaritans still out and about.

It happened in Calgary as well:

It is nice to see people still have a heart and a head to return these to either the vet, or an association that can help reunite the medals to their rightful owner. Cheers.
