I think the funniest part of it all is that the closest most of the morons got to putting on a uniform and actually defending a country was by playing the video game.

At first when I looked at that it made me really mad. But then I loked over some of everyone else's posts and started to laugh. The title of this thread fits perfectly "lots of idiots". especially Mr.History and the guy who thinks we have warehouses of hockey sticks. Those people are the people who make American's look bad!

Before we laugh too hard, I just had a depressing conversation with one of our own graduates in European History, who informed me that there were American beaches, British beaches, and Canada may have had a few troops assisting the British, but we most certainly did not have anything bigger than a platoon at Normandy; his degree, 20th Century European History, out of McGill. It seems our own village has a reasonable stock of idiots as well. Ah well, the best counter to any form of racial supremacy, is broader contact with said race .

Lol... I'm not very good with history, but how can you be so misinformed with degree in history?? McGill lost credibility there!
Why are people with a degree almost always act like hippies? I go to university, and people there makes me laugh.. Long hair with long beards, they look like they've been in a refugee camp for a decade! There are even ecolos going to courses without shoes. They say they won't encourage the child exploitation and that they won't help companies to spread all around the world, but then you see them eating at McDonald's with their brand new shirt right from Wal-Mart... arrghh!!

I know what you mean with regard to the hippies, I go to Trent University and yeah, we're just rampant with them, and what makes it worse is that they're the 'University know-it-all' hippies... most of whom are first years enrolled in Politics 100.
To play Devi's advocate (wrt to the McGill guy), theres a good chance he didn't take any courses that specifically deal with the military aspect of WWII; now I'd be a little worried if he graduated with a Military history degree and didn't know about Canada's contribution to D-Day.
A girl I lived with during my second year was a history major as well, but was surprised to learn that not only did Canada contribute to the Korean Police Action, that there was in fact a conflict in Korea - she always assumed that MASH was set in Vietnam. The scary part is she's currently enrolled at Queen's doing her B. Ed, and is hoping to be a high school History/English teacher.

Sorry, I don't usually participate in these threads, but this one was just too funny.
we were fighting people under 18 and over 35 yes, but they can kill just like anyone else. i talked with a vet from d-day and he was in tears he was 1 of 8 men left from his platoon after the 1st day of fighting. would any of you be able to shoot a 16 year old kid? the Canadians met up against a SS tank division and still made it to there destination on time.
and for the guy that said we went from weak to nothing, well we have always had the reputation for building the lagest military the quickest. and by largest i mean the percentage in the military to the amount of people in the country.
i cant stand it when i see people insulting soldiers that fought and died in any war. they Canadians died for the same reason Americans died. that was to stop Hitler.
where ever i go i always see anti Canadian sites, the funny thing about them is they are all the same. Americans saying they can take over Canada with water guns, or walk in and say it now America. they are all just a bunch of uneducated kids that have nothing better top do than put other contries down to try and feel Superior.

It appears the History Channel and the autobiography of the Banfuheur are contradicting each other in the fact of hitler youth in France... if any "hardcore" history people would put some input.
The Hitler Youth were some of the most fanatic soldiers that existed at that time.. they simply knew nothing else. Since the time they could think, they were fed training and messages to make them fierce and "loyal" soldiers.

Sheerin : yes I know what you mean. Here, they all study in earth science, math, Sociology, politics....
I don't understand how those people are supposed to be hired as professionnals later on... I wouldn't even hire one of them to use my lawnmower!
