Lt.-Col. Rob Walker, the commanding officer of the CFB Gagetown battle group now serving in Afghanistan, escaped serious injury late Thursday night when a rocket fired by the Taliban struck the vehicle in which he was riding.

A native of Saskatchewan, Walker was riding in a seven-vehicle convoy from the Kandahar Air Field to Patrol Operating Base Wilson when the incident occurred. The base is west of Kandahar City in the Zhari Region, an area where confrontations continue between NATO-directed troops and the Taliban, the fundamentalist group deposed by the U.S. military and Afghan opposition forces in late 2001.

Good intel on the Taliban's part.  ::) :-\

Could be ... you never know. These people helped beat the russians, and then they beat all the other people who helped beat the russians.

Or could be pure blind luck.....

These guys depend on "In sha Allah" ... If god wills it, it will happen.

Not good intel....he used the same chunk of road each time.

Funny the atricle doesn't mention the two othe guys who got minor injuries.

The Taliban are very resourceful in gathering intel.

Remember the old WWII posters, " The walls have ears".

Don't ever doubt that they don't have eyes inside the wire.

Overshadowed by the bigger players at stake  ;D ........... Glad to hear all concerned are good to go.

To do otherwise would be naively foolish.

There exists myriads of proverbs describing this very type of situation, none of which come to mind at 0800 without coffee.

You know, I am starting to think that TB haved figure out which veh/convoys the command teams are in and going after them....

Perhaps the BG HQ should look a perhaps changing some TTPs.

I think if you ask around, this is 'old news'.  The TB do have a good Intelligence network.  They hit Comd elements on previous tours.  They will target them on more.
