Well Lumber you'd have valid points ...

If the posts you were ranting about were NOT made in friggin' jest, but they were and it's quite obvious to everyone but you.

Get over it already. You'll experience better 'jests' than these posts (just as EVERY rank/trade level/Unit/Enviornment does about itself from others ...  ::)) once you get out into the "real world" ... salt grains are a good thing for one's diet ... talk to your dietician about adding some to yours.

The problem I see with this is, if our training regime guarantees (more or less) that NCMs reach Cpl and Officers reach Capt (LT(N)), i.e. those are the ranks of the fully trained and qualified foundation of soldiers in the CF, and if we assume my Plt Cmdr was correct and that you get promoted to one rank past your niche, then aren't technically those "Cpls for Life" and "Capts for Life" that we hear about not actually competent enough for the job they were hired for? If everyone in the CF is competent to perform their trades as required, then shouldn't everyone at least get promoted to Maj. and Sgt. and THEN get 'stuck'? Was my Captain all out to lunch?

Going back to this, just to clear things up, I hope no one thought I was insulting every long serving Capt. or Corporal with this paragraph. I was simply applying my Captain's "Peter Principle" to show that it doesn't make since, because I don't believe that "Capts for life" or "Corporals for life" are incompetent whatseover!

The confidence in Officers here is enthralling; it's very motivational. :salute:

Sorry to post through the lock but since i just saw this and not had a chance to retort.....

Lumber, when you have more that 5 minutes of TI in the real CF, you will realize that its every NCOs job to mentor junior officers that are freshly arrived at the unit. These junior officers are not stupid. They are just new, inexperienced and dont really know a whole lots beyond what they learn during phase training. When i was teaching officer phase courses, i always let them make the decisions and carry them through up to the point where their plan became a danger to the troops. At that point, i pulled the JO asside and explained things.

Its not a problem with confidence in officers. In my job there are 2 officers 10 feet in front of me doing the driving. I have every confidence in them.

Its time for you to STFU.
