Anybody have a source for the lamination sheets that are used on topo maps, ie. Map Tac?

We don't use the stuff down here in the States and I've been trying to find a source, but haven't had any luck.  Anybody got any info where I can get the stuff from?  (Commercial source is preferable)

You can try a graphic arts store.  We use it in airbrushing, called frisket film.  It's the same thing, just a bit less sticky.  Should work fine for maps.

Is there any problem when using Frisket Film of the material delaminating from the map, or is it pretty durable?  How well does it stick to paper?  If you write with permanent marker on it, can you wipe off your markings with alcohol swabs or silicone spray?

Virtually the same stuff as map tac, right down to the grids on the backing paper.  The only diff is the adhesive.  Frisket is made not to lift paint when removed from a piece.  It should work fine unless the map gets drenched, so I'd cover two and stash one.  Maps do not improve wit age, as you know.  By the way, this stuff isn't cheap, like any other art supplies, but worth it.

I know Business Depot carries it, and would expect others like it, Grand and Toy would probably have it as well.

Unfortunatly no, I still have some of it but not the packaging.  It has the same scale/grids on the back. I think it was classified as self laminate or something like that.

If I'm in there soon I can take a look at the name for you.

A small bottle of nail polish remover. Guaranteed to remove permanent marker from anything. Used quite frequently in Clothing Stores to remove markings from barrack Boxes.  ;)

I suggest the buying the one labelled "non-acetone". It won't eat your stuff up. Sorry, should have said that in the original post. :-[

Map Tac is also sold as "shelf liner" type stuff, you can get at places like Walmart.

Yup.  The stuff I used to use "in the day" was clear shelf liner with the trade name of Mac-Tac.  Hmmm... Sound familiar?  We used to buy it at the grocery store if we couldn't get any from the CQ.  Best stuff I ever used was in Germany.  It looked kind of opaque on the roll but had a really nice non glare finish when we put it on the maps.
