I assumed as much. There is a lot of competition for clicks, so you need to generate outrage.

Having your spec held until the review is done is far better than the (slim) possibility of having pay removed after the review.
Pretty sure its no going away, if it were there would be a mass exdous.

I actually think you're right. Not that there isn't problems. But wallowing them isn't healthy.

I hate to be that guy, but if this job brings someone that much negativity they should think about other careers. Life is too short to be that miserable; especially about something you cant control.
 
I've lost track, have they finally got a date to start training the replacement HT stream?

RCD combat survivability concept relies on that skillset starting at the DCPO and at the section bases, at a higher level than what we meet with current MARTECH (because they killed HTs, realized it didn't work and went back). Need the specialist knowledge that you don't get without an HT stream.

1. AS A RESULT OF THE MARINE TECHNICIAN ACTION TEAM (MTAT)
OCCUPATIONAL ANALYSIS COMPLETED IN JUNE 2023 WITH INPUT FROM THE
TECHNICAL COMMUNITY, THE ROYAL CANADIAN NAVY (RCN) WILL TRANSFORM THE
MARINE TECHNICIAN (MAR TECH) OCCUPATION FROM THE STRUCTURE
ESTABLISHED IN 2017. ACKNOWLEDGING THE CHALLENGES AND LESSONS LEARNED
OVER THE PAST NINE YEARS, THIS UPDATED OCCUPATION FRAMEWORK WILL
SHIFT FROM AN OPERATOR/GENERALIST MODEL TO A MAINTAINER/OPERATOR
APPROACH THAT EMPHASIZES THE CORE TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES OF EACH
STREAM

2. EFFECTIVE 1 APRIL 2026, THE MAR TECH OCCUPATION WILL TRANSITION
INTO TWO DISTINCT OCCUPATIONS AS OUTLINED IN REFS A AND B:
A) 00404 MARINE SYSTEMS ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN (MSET) AND
B) 00405 MARINE SYSTEMS MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN (MSMT)

3. STRUCTURES TECHNICIAN SUB-OCCUPATION: THE MSMT OCCUPATION WILL
INCLUDE A STRUCTURES SUB-OCCUPATION. HOWEVER, IMPLEMENTATION WILL BE
DEFERRED UNTIL THE REQUIRED TRAINING PROGRAMS ARE AVAILABLE. ONLY
MEMBERS OF THE MSMT OCCUPATION WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR FUTURE TRANSFER
TO THE STRUCTURES SUB-OCCUPATION

4. RESERVE FORCE: THE NAVAL RESERVE (NAVRES) WILL CONTINUE TO SERVE
AS A STRATEGIC RESERVE TO THE MSET AND MSMT OCCUPATIONS, PERFORMING
THE SAME CRITICAL FUNCTIONS AS AT PRESENT. TO ENSURE SEAMLESS
SUPPORT, NAVRES PERSONNEL WILL ALSO TRANSITION TO THE MSET AND MSMT
OCCUPATIONS

5. SPECIALIST PAY: A PAY REVIEW IS REQUIRED FOR ANY NEW OCCUPATION
AND IS CURRENTLY UNDERWAY FOR THE MSET AND MSMT OCCUPATIONS. THIS
REVIEW WILL RESULT IN A RECOMMENDATION FROM DIRECTOR GENERAL
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS (DGCB) TO THE TREASURY BOARD REGARDING THE
ASSIGNMENT OF SPECIALIST PAY. ONLY TREASURY BOARD HAS THE AUTHORITY
TO APPROVE SPECIALIST PAY. UNTIL THE REVIEW IS COMPLETE, MEMBERS WHO
CURRENTLY RECEIVE SPECIALIST PAY WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO AS THEY
TRANSITION TO MSET OR MSMT, HOWEVER UNTIL A REVIEW IS COMPLETE
MEMBERS IN THE NEW OCCUPATIONS WILL CEASE TO RECEIVE SPECIALIST PAY
UPON PROMOTION TO THE NEXT RANK. THE CAF IS ACTIVELY WORKING TO
COMPLETE THIS REVIEW AND MINIMIZE ANY POTENTIAL FINANCIAL IMPACT ON
MEMBERS

6. TRANSITION: AS OF 1 APR 26 NEW MEMBERS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE
ENROLLED IN EITHER NEW OCCUPATION AND NO FURTHER MAR TECHS WILL BE
RECRUITED. TRANSITION OF CURRENT MEMBERS WILL OCCUR LATER THAN 1 APR

26. MEMBERS OF THE MAR TECH ELECTRICAL SUB-OCCUPATION WILL BE
TRANSFERRED TO MSET, AND CURRENT MEMBERS OF THE MAR TECH MECHANICAL
SUB-OCCUPATION WILL TRANSFERRED TO MSMT. JUNIOR MAR TECHS HAVE BEEN
CANVASSED FOR THEIR OCCUPATION PREFERENCE AND WILL BE ASSIGNED
ACCORDINGLY. ANY DISCREPANCIES ARE TO BE REPORTED THROUGH UNIT
ORDERLY ROOMS.

7. PACE / PAR: PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL REPORTS (PAR) FOR FY 25-26 WILL
BE COMPLETED UNDER THE MAR TECH OCCUPATION. THE TRANSITION HAS BEEN
TIMED TO ALIGN WITH THE NEW FISCAL YEAR TO AVOID DISRUPTION TO
PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENTS. MEMBERS WILL NOT BE DISADVANTAGED AT MSET OR
MSMT NATIONAL SELECTION BOARDS FOR HAVING A PAR COMPLETED UNDER THE
PREVIOUS MAR TECH OCCUPATION

8. OCCUPATION BADGES: DIRECTOR HISTORY AND HERITAGE (DHH) HAS
APPROVED THE ADOPTION OF THE FORMER ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN BADGE FOR
MSET AND THE FORMER MARINE ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN BADGE FOR MSMT.
MEMBERS ARE AUTHORIZED TO OBTAIN THEIR NEW BADGE FROM BASE CLOTHING
STORES

9. QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS SHOULD BE RAISED THROUGH THE CHAIN OF
COMMAND
