Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels (MCDVs)

It shows a hull mounted sonar dome - located about a quarter of the length from the stem - which is where it should be and not in the bow like the US practice that gets the damn thing out of the water half the time in high sea states - but what use is it if you don't also have a tail?

P.S. Re: another post above: How many MCDV's left on the West coast? And why so many in Halifax in one shot?

8 in the picture so 4 left on the WC. Probably 3 before long. They all will be coming East at some point.

Needs to be UAV capable at least. The RN in the River Class Batch 2 added a Merlin Capable flight deck as they realized the usefulness. I think with our Northern operations some sort of heated shelter is required to store any naval air equipment and assets. Could really regret not doing that.
Is the AOPS recovering and storing helicopters yet? Are those initial problems and costs making the RCN helicopter shy?

And if course a lack of helicopters isn’t helping the decision.

CCG uses telescoping hangers, but only for smaller helicopters.

No helicopters for AOPs, yet. Lots of own goals.

Latest I have heard is the RCN does not want any helo capability for the CDC, so I suspect they will need to go back to the drawing board for that.

It makes sense to me, as helo ops add a huge amount of cost and complexity to a ship.

But do they want a UAS capability? And how much of that hangar adds/subtracts to the Multi-Mission Bay?

Any info on how this machine is doing?

That makes a lot of sense, and neatly dovetail into the bomber comparison.

The first bombing raids caught people by surprise, but eventually Radar, improved GBAD, as well as improved fighters and night fighters equipped with radar made bombers less effective.

The big difference is that there are fewer people on the Motor Torpedo Boats and Fairey Swordfish.

Is there even a request out for these ships designs?

Edit: if the RCN desire for historical class names persists and they call these Flower Class, then what are some particularly nasty flowers found in Canada?

Water Hemlock?
Cannibas
Foxglove
Hogweed?
Poison Ivey, Stinging Nettle, Oleander, Morning Glory, Buttercup, Lily and many others are also toxic.

Yah I think they are aiming too high. And honestly that's to much crap in that small of a ship with the expected small crew.

Really though they are just out there advertizing stuff. Whenever an RFI or RFP comes out we'll see what can actually be done.
