The Irish may be getting in the game with an actual combat vessel rather than an OPV or a logistically oriented MRV. They are now looking for a MRCV which opens the door to the type 31, which seems to becoming popular in Europe, and potentially something closer to the original Absalon concept with its RoRo flex deck.

Orca replacement is being looked at now.

What is wrong with them that they need replacement after a mere 20 years? Can't stand to YAG standards? You need to be able to run them for another 30 years!

The RCN may like overcomplicating things, but trust me, training vessels is one where they really don't.

The one I did my training on had the following navigation equipment: one gyro compass, one magnetic compass, a chart table, a sextant, parallel ruler and pencils, together with a single Marine VHF radio for bridge to bridge.

The Orca's are a little more complicated, but only carry what would count as basic navigation set up in the fleet and basic communication set up. They obviously carry nothing operational. Replacements should not exceed that, but come in a vessel that is a better sea boat.

Sea keeping is a must. I seem to recall one tried to go past Buoy J and got the shyte kicked out of it. Something that can survive the west coast of Van Isle is a must.
