Hi,
I've been around this board for a long time, and a lot of the stuff I've learned on here has helped me through the recruiting process to where I currently stand; merit listed.  I visited the recruiting centre here in Halifax the other day and was told I was merit listed and was given a number to call my file manager.  I spoke with him and he asked me about my specifics and said unofficially I should start in Jan. 08.  He said he should be calling me by the end of the week, as he is calling people 1-2 weeks after being merit listed.  Its about a week past his 2 week maximum he told me.  Should I call or will that really just annoy him?  I would really like to start in January and this waiting game is not easy, haha.

So if anyone has any advice about whether I should keep playing the waiting game or call to see what's up?  I would greatly appreciate it.  If anyone has been in the predicament and could let me know how they worked it out, it would be greatly appreciated.  I realize this is a minor situation, but just looking to get this career kick started.

Thanks
Neil

Hi,

Well, if I were you, I would call him. He might be annoyed if you yell at him, and give him s..t because he's "late". Otherwise, I don't think showing interest and enthusiasm would make you annoying...

The merit list isn't anything to get too excited about. When they say they put you on the merit list, it pretty much means that you are on a list of candidates based on your past experience, education, CFAT scores, etc. in comparison with other people in those fields.

Danny D,
Being merit listed is the final step. If you have chosen an occupation that is on the Open Selection List (OSL) the CFRC can select you IF there is a position for you and a basic training training spot for you. Most CFRC's do selections at least once a week so you usually should her someting soon.

IF you have chosen an occupation currently filled, you will have to wait.

If you have chosen an occupation that requires an National Selection List at CFRG then they run those about every 5 -6 weeks.

IF you have chosen an officer occupation, wether it is open or not, you will have to wait until there are basic training vacancies made available.

That being said, being merit listed is the last critical step in getting an offer. The next step is selection. Once selected the offer comes in and you have a start point to a career.

Good Luck.
