Is anyone here participating in the Mil Skills this year? If so what are you doing to get ready for it? I believe it happens in mid-October in Pet.

Did any of you go last year? How was it?

The list on my OP Order reads as follows (NOTE: this is all unclassified)

1. NBC Stand
2. First Aid
3. Change a tire on LSVW
4. Weapons Expertise
5. Knot replication
6. Judging distance
7. Night Nav

I heard that in an effort to make the competition more challenging, "Change a tire on LSVW" will be replaced with "Say 10 nice things about LSVW".

Brad: This would add a very high degree of difficulty to the competition. And would probably result in the weekend competition turning into a 2 month exercise.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

1. Good visibility for the driver from the cab
2. Non-skid coating on hood effective at preventing falls
3. Heater as designed provides correct amount of warmth for the cab (compare to Iltis heater which really only heats the 6 inches or so underneath the weird covers
4. Engine has good amount of "pep" considering it is a diesel
5. Cargo box occupies nice middle ground between an Iltis trailer and an MLVW
6. Map light in cab is a very nice feature that other vehicles would benefit from
7. Engine is easily accessible for routine maintenance (you have to be an Olympic athlete to get on the bumper of an MLVW, especially if wearing all your winter kit)

****, I really thought I could do it, I honestly did, but that‘s all I can say with a straight face.

It really is a good heater, when it‘s working.

I didn‘t know such thing existed.

When does this competition start?

Michael:

8. much more leg room than an Iltis
9. LS Amb could conceivably get a patient to evac without killing them (in theory)
10. Good driving when you‘re on paved, flat surfaces (like the airstrips it was originally designed for)

Do we win a prize now?

Be careful what you wish for combat_medic; say enough nice things about the LSVW that might just let you keep one.

Where the **** would you even park it?? :)

During the wintertime you can‘t shove a ration up inside the heater in an LS like you can in an iltis though ;)

no worries there...they give off lots of heat when they set themselves on fire...

but the map light is cool (as long as you don‘t need to see the grid on your map)

just a crazy trucker‘s ramblings

I am the proud new transport nco for a light patrol vehicles worth of iltis and support vehicles (ls or ml) at platoon level for 6 months. 11 jeeps, 1 or 2 trucks, winter, thats going to be no stress at all :)

And a side not. When a unit is asked to send/lend equipment out and they send the worst condition stuff they have, the person responsible for that unprofessional barf should be kicked and than forced to answer questions all day from the media.
"Well corporal what do you think bosnia will look like at night?"
"Well i figure it‘s going to be pretty dark, genius"
