Military School

I have been reading the info posted here regarding the amount of positions being limited due to the recruiting numbers.

I‘m wondering if the Military School also has too many people applying?

It would seem, that with the emphasis being placed on recruits with the best qualifications, that the School would be a good option to begin with.

Does anyone have any info on the amount of people that can/will be accepted into the Military School in Kingston?

Each recruiting centre is given a quota which is broken down into trade and classifcation, including RMC. Your best bet is to ask your local recruiting centre to see if RMC is still open for recruiting.

Firstly, RMC Candidates, (actually ROTP candidates, you arent really accepted by RMC, but by CFRETS in Borden) are usually selected on a merit basis, and then within your top 3 choices given on the selection form. If they really want you, they will offer you another trade that is open, if all the other trades are closed, or they will drop someone else and give you that trade. All depends on how good your file is.

The numbers given to us by an officer I trust here is there are roughly 3000 applications submitted to Borden each year for ROTP acceptance, and roughly 300 are accepted. (including ROTP Junior, Senior and Civilian University). WHile the number of files are low compared to other universities, a 10% acceptance rate is one of the most stringent in the country.

The scholarship is valued at (By Maclean‘s) to be worth 14,000/year, when tuition, books and subsidies are taken into consideration. Add on top of that your monthly (but small) salary.

Please also note that RMC is expanding its capacity for students as the forces push for a greater percentage of its officer corps to originate from within the CMC system.

5 years of indoctrination plus a guaranteed 5 years of service usually equals officers who are more prepared to stay in the forces past their initial contract obligations. So Im told.

It should be in May (was in the 2nd week of May for my ROTP acceptance), although some people get ROTP acceptance as late as early June (if people decline or change their mind).

*mine was in May as well. The 10th or something.
But as he said, it can depend on if you are waitlsted.

Remember, there are a lot more applicants this year due to Ontario Double Cohort.

Hey i would just like to say hi and that i applied in early february, but i just gotta take one more test (pilot eye test) on the 8th of may. The medical place in mtl was booked with other stuff and had to place me here. But so far so good eh! past all my other tests so hopefully i will get in (st-jean this year)!

I have been looking at going to RMC. I am in grade 11. I am active and am great shape. Example I run 9km a day for track and Cross Country Running. My Question is what are my chances of getting into RMC with a 81.3 grade average and what courses should I take in grade 12. Their website is a little limitted on facts. Thanks A lot for your help

Physical fitness is, suprisingly, not one of the major criteria they look at, although I suppose they could apply it to Military potential.

Know as much as you can about the forces, join Cadets, etc. Get as much leadership experience as you can (Captain of sports teams, President of Student COuncil, etc), absent of that, get real world experience (ie beyond flipping burgers at MC****s).

They look at Leadership, Military and Academic potential. Usually Academics requires a min of an 80. Usually.

Will Be Vice-Pres of athletic Council next year
I volunteer the community events
And was a corporal in Air Cadets for a couple of years

I guess I will keep volunteering!! And hope for the best

i was captain of my soccer team (both school and city) for about 10 years in a row, was student council pres 1 year, on my athletic council did some community service.

when i was done my interview the guy said that my records where pretty good (except i should do more cs, but he understood i couldnt do much since im 17) so if you try to get involed as best you can in your community you should be ok!

They look at a lot of things.

And just because your interviewer said you looked good, does not mean you get in. Especially this year, given the double cohort in ontario.

Applications are up, and space has remained relatively the same.

RMC typically gets about 3000 applications (approx) and accepts 300 (about 150 Prep, 150 straight that join the 140 remaining preps from the year before to start first year), or so we were told....

that means a rough 10% acceptance rate. While 3000 apps is not a lot, 10% isnt either.

Um, is reserve experiance better then cadet experiance? For, I will have two years of Reserve Experiance (1 year and 10 months or something like taht) before I graduate (got in at 16 and grad. at 18).
