I have seen comments on here but no detail as to the differences in duties when you are a reserve MP as opposed to reg force.

Could anyone enlighten me as to what the differences in duty are? Obviously pay and deployments will differ....but what about day-to-day activities??

One more question....MP‘s seem to be a position that all services are recruiting for...Navy, Army and Air Force....if you for example go to the Navy as an MP as opposed to the Army...will you spend your time at Halifax and/or Esquimalt as well as ship duty .....or do they post Navy and/or Air Force MP‘s on Army exercises etc....

Thanks for all your time!
Thanks for your help.

As a reg force MP, you can be posted anywhere, an army base, an air base or a naval base and it doesn‘t matter what elemental uniform you wear. (I‘m army at a navy base) I havent done any sea time and nobody at our guardhouse hase done any as an MP either. There was talk about it but thats the last I heard of it. To answer your other question, their are air force and navy MP‘s posted to army field platoons who deploy to the field on exercise and deployments. Basically, what im saying is it doesn‘t matter what service you are, you get posted based on operational need.

Why do they bother having different element MP‘s, like medics and cooks? Wouldn‘t be simpler to put them all under the same umbrella?

dalredane,

I'm not sure if u were actually interested in becoming an MP, but just to let u know (if you didn't already) a police foundations diploma is required for this trade (reg force) as it is semi skilled.

I think you can also LOTP once your already in the military. It would definately help regardless though.

i do have my degree...i was just wondering...i got a pretty good job right now but want the challenge that I think the MP position would offer.

my advice is to go reg force MP as opposed to reserve... you will perform normal duties of a police officer while in garrison basically youre a cop on an army base.

(ive done a little looking into it myself)

PRes MP‘s do some interesting stuff from time to time, but its nothing compared to the reg force.

and from what ive heard MP‘s get some of the best training in canada for policing.

Someone told me that applicants for MP are required to take a polygraph exam ( Lie Detector) is this true?

Not true for Reg Force. I just went through the entire process and didn‘t even have to look at a polygraph machine. It might be something they may be looking into but there‘s nothing written in stone yet. Couldn‘t tell you for reserve though.

You wont have to do the Poly for the Reserves or Reg force(as far as I know). I would not doubt that soon you will have to do the poly as most major police forces in Canada use it.

An MP for the Reserves could only be so interesting, when you really think about it.

One night a week, and maybe one weekend a month? The time you do spend on duty would simply be spent refreshing the training you have, as being a part-time citizen soldier wouldn‘t allow the time needed to do anything substantial as a military police officer, for 3hrs a week.

Correct me if I‘m wrong, but thats the view I get.

Do you know if CSE does as well? I imagine they do. I‘m just curious. Thanks.
