Id love to see a more robust and armed CCG.

I think you will find that internal culture very very resistant though.

The CCG is a civil agency. It was originally called the Canadian Marine Service (marine meaning "ocean", not related to anything like naval infantry. Diefenbaker changed the name of the agency to give himself some sort of legacy after he was no longer in office. Maybe, if the gov't thinks they need an actual Coast Guard in the CAF, then officially rename the CCG to the "Marine Services Canada" and put them back into DFO (or where ever they were before) and change the name of Maritime Command to the Royal Canadian Coast Guard, which would operate the Coast Patrol Vessels.
At the same time I would separate the RCN from the CAF and create a new Department of Maritime Defense (separate from DND, but both part of a new Ministry of Defense that would contain both DND and DMD)) that would be able to deploy ships anywhere in the world when needed. It would be a tri-service force consisting of; The Fleet, The Royal Canadian Naval Air Service, and The Royal Canadian Naval Infantry. Of course that will never happen because the gov't doesn't want to have to double or triple the defense budget. But it would be a much better solution to defending Canadian sovereignty that what we are doing now.
