Murder of former British MP now being investigated by counter-terrorism police

Several days ago Ann Widdicombe, a colourful and sometimes controversial former British Conservative MP and minister who later became a Reform UK spokesperson, was found dead in her home having sustained serious injuries.. Initially the police did not ascribe a political or terrorism motive to her murder. Following the arrest of a suspect, counter terrorism police have taken over the investigation and the suspect was re-arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood confirmed the suspect was not known to the government's anti-terrorism programme in an update to MPs.
