Muslim Call to Prayer in Regina (split from Liberal Gov't 2025 - ???)

’m good with Church bells marking time, on the hour. No noise from 9-10pm until 8-9am

Regina Police had this to say about church bells ,

QUOTE

It is against the Noise Abatement Bylaw #6980 to create any noise that is a disturbance to others between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. with the exception of:

1. pre-authorized events or;

2. noise caused by:

* emergency vehicles * train whistles * snow removal equipment * church bells

END QUOTE

The pic posted above looked more like an electronic loud speaker system than a bell.

Apparently, there are Call to Prayer Apps for one's phone .

3mins at 5 times a day = 15mins, if they allow it to occur at 10pm and before 7am.

If they allow Church bells from 8am to 10pm - that’s 15times, ranging from a single ‘toll’ at 1pm to 12 rings for noon, mostly likely less than 3-4mins total duration cumulatively.

The article says they have a permit for once a week, Friday afternoons.

Replied in Radio Chatter.

Call me what ever you like, I don't want this.

interesting and sad. Church bells have been silenced throughout many areas as a result of people protesting being forced to listen to churchy stuff, you know freedom from religion etc. Now we have the sound of prayer call echoing through the streets what, 5 times a day? At least the church bells would give you the correct time. Wait until Ramadan when they start reading the Koran all night long. I loved the bells by the way but if doing without the bells is the only way to eliminate prayer call I am all for it.

Call-to-prayer is a religious dominance play.
Which, like political statements, are in the eye of the beholder.
Church bells are basically music without words. Call-to-prayer is a political statement.
One person's church bells (which are and have been used as calls to a different kind of prayer) is another's call to prayer, with all the attendant narrative baggage one chooses to attach to either.

Replied in Radio Chatter . Before the Split.

Church bells were also melted into armaments during the World Wars .

Mosque officials said the outdoor call will last approximately two to three minutes, just on Fridays before Jumu’ah services.

Sure, but irrelevant.

The preservation of liberal principles occasionally requires violating them, which is not abandonment if we return to them. (Abandonment would be violating and not returning). I am confident the people pushing overt displays of Islam are mostly those pursuing long-term agendas to bigfoot everyone else, not those merely trying to engage in a free exercise of religion. I accept the risk that some of the latter may be caught up by measures to shut down the former. Christianity has reformed its doctrines and actions immensely in the heart of Christianity (Europe, whether talking about Catholicism or one of the flavours of Protestanism), and arguably so has Judaism (in Israel). Saudia Arabia is the heart of Islam, and it is undeniably illiberal, as are many highly Islamic countries.

If we want Canada to be a liberal country, we have to recognize obvious risks and draw bright lines discouraging the development and exercise of illiberal belief systems, particularly those with an obvious political/governance nexus. I don't care whether it's Marxism, Russian or Chinese style communism, traditional Italian fascism, or Islam.

Just in case the outdoor call is missed, for back-up , an Athan app can be added to phones.

It uses a specialized tool that uses the device's GPS to calculate and provide accurate localized prayer times ( Salah ) and Azan alarms for the specific location.

The Salah Pro app seems popular.
