I am currently completing my application online for NCM SEP and when I come to the education page it won't let me go to the next without filling this out but I haven't been to college or university, I want to go through the forces.

Does the page allow you to list high school? Or did you put that in another part? I completed the application a few weeks ago so can't quite remember sorry.

You list the highest level of education you have successfully completed.

There was no option for just highschool or an option to select no college/university. I am currently doing a certificate program in college so I entered that as best I could but my program wasn't an option

Don't worry too much that's all I did too. I had some University courses but no degree, so I just entered it best I could. You will send them your transcripts anyways so they should be able to fix anything which was entered incorrectly. I never had any issues with it though.

I don't think you should be suggesting filling out anything incorrectly for the recruiters to fix for the applicant. If you don't have the time nor the effort to research your own back round to get correct information, that just shows that you are not that serious about applying.

This has nothing to do with researching our own backgrounds to get correct information, this has to do with the interface which is used to input our information not being user friendly. It also has no relevance to whether we are serious about applying or not. If the Canadian Forces denied every application which had a mistake because they were clearly "not that serious about applying", then they would be missing out on a hell of a lot of talent.

We enter things to the best of our ability, in a way that the system will accept the application to be sent to the CFVRC. The system is not perfect. If you took a bunch of University credits, but did not complete a degree program, the system does not have an option to select that, it doesn't exist and you need to play with the options which ARE available and the space you are given to make it more clear what your education includes.

Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly or perhaps it's changed since I did the online application (I'm pretty sure it actually has changed since October) but I seem to remember there just being blank lines to fill out with your highest level of education. If highschool is the highest completed put that down along with any partially completed education.

I take back the part about researching your own back round, my mistake. My point however, is if you are filling something out and you are serious about it, get help with it prior to just sending it as is. Every detail helps and if the initial poster is taking courses and wants to submit that information with the application and can not, he should be guided on how to fill it out properly and not just submit it to the best of his ability.

When I did mine, it was both. Blank lines, and some drop down menus to choose from. That is why tedavis is saying his program wasn't an option to choose from. There are parts of it that you simply can not fill in "perfectly" according to what they have in the application process, because it isn't designed for people who only have partial University, it was designed with people who have completed diplomas/degrees/certificates in major programs in mind.

If I am remembering correctly, what I did was choose something like select the degree program from the drop down, but I wrote in the blank space "NO DEGREE ACHIEVED". I just remember having to fudge parts of it, because the system just wasn't designed for people who took some random university courses.

I get what you are saying, but there comes a point where the recruiting center has to stop holding our hands and just tell us to do it to the best of our abilities. I have already had 2 situations in recruiting where the staff puts a piece of paper and pen in front of me, and tells me to just try to fill it out the best I can, and they literally turn their backs to me while I fill it in. It was things which most people would consider very minor, and shouldn't change anything in the grand scheme of things, but which they know I might be filling in incorrectly, simply because sometimes the "best of your ability" is sufficient for the task at hand.

Sometimes a perfectly right answer doesn't exist for a situation, or sometimes it will take an inefficiently long time to get the perfectly right answer. That's actually an important part of the CFAT testing. Do you spend a long time on a question, to make sure it is 100% correct, and risk not being able to answer the other questions, or just do your best and move on?

If it takes an extra 2 days to get it 100% to the CF recruiting standards, you might miss out on your opportunity to apply for your selected trade this year. And on the flip side, if you go through your application too hastily, you might not be putting your best face forward. That is why I prefer the standard of "to the best of your ability."

Don't sweat it.  The application which is available online is a sad thing and needs some serious updating for it to work properly.  The problems have apparently been acknowledged but if and/or when it will be fixed is anyones guess.  So like they say, just try and do your best at filling it out.  The education issues will be picked up once your academic transcripts are assessed and corrections will be made accordingly.

If you have any other issues, then after applying, just send a follow-up email to  [email protected]  explain the problem you encountered and what changes you would like made to your application so that it reflects the correct information.  Be sure to include your FULL NAME and DATE OF BIRTH, don't just sign your email "Sincerely, John".......
