Although the EUR100-250 million (up to USD281.9 million) contract for the UAVs isn't expected until the middle of 2015, Lt Col Lengkeek said the RNLAF has decided to send two pilots and two sensor operators "to have sufficiently trained crew once the MQ-9s and associated equipment are delivered".
The Netherlands Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced its intention to buy the Reapers and associated ground stations in November 2013. The UAVs will be operated by 306 Squadron, based at Leeuwarden Air Force Base.
The RNLAF is expecting to declare initial operating capability (IOC) on the MQ-9 at the end of 2016, with full operational capability following in late 2017.
