A new protocol is being put in place under the authority of the FCPO (A). IMO, this is late coming but better late than never. Disseminated from the info provided today:
The purpose of this email is to advise all CF and Civilian personnel within the MARLANT area, of the new protocol that will be observed whenever a Sailor, Soldier, Airman or Airwoman dies while deployed on operations. To Honour those who have fallen, we encourage, where possible, all units within MARLANT, as well as those RACE and LFAA personnel within MARLANT Headquarters to observe a MINUTE OF SILENCE, to pay respect to CF members who sacrificed their lives in service to their country.
How will this be executed:
- MARLANT will be informed thru the RJOC or other means that one of our Comrades has been killed in the line of duty while deployed on operations.
- A determination will be made as to what day/time units can pay their respects in the form of a MINUTE OF SILENCE.
- The day before the proposed date/time for this MINUTE OF SILENCE, an XXX XXXX email will be sent out informing units of the personal information of the fallen comrade. An example is as follows "You are invited to observe a minute of silence on [date and time] in memory of our fallen comrade(s), [name(s)], who passed away on [details] and to pray for family members they have left behind. On the proposed date, units within MARLANT equipped with a public address system ( or any other preferred method) are encouraged to observe a minute of silence.
- At 09:00 hrs on the date determined for the MINUTE OF SILENCE, units are encouraged to make the following announcement: "Good morning and attention all Military and Civilian personnel. Please take this opportunity to observe a minute of silence in honour of our fallen comrade (s), [name(s) ], who passed away on [details] and to pray for the family members they have left behind" After a minute of silence, " This concludes our minute of silence".
- For D201, until further notice, the announcement will be made over our Public Address System by the Formation CPO Assistant. In addition, a MARLANTGEN message, which describes this new protocol, will be released shortly. Questions can be addressed to the FCPO(A) , CPO1 X. XXXXXXXXX, 427-XXXX. Units are also encouraged to include this in their Unit ROs , SOP etc.
* I am curious as to what other units/formations are doing.
