Niagara declares eclipse emergency

I’m still backing Darwin ;)
lol, good bet, Darwin always wins eventually!

I think at this point though things are trending towards Idiocracy which is more of a short term success followed by a massive population crash.

A million people flooding into a pretty small area that's completely unequipped to handle such an influx is a danger of major proportions if not adequately prepared for. It's certainly an 'impending situation', it could result in serious harm to persons, and it's obviously caused by a force of nature.

It's a huge challenge.

SARS Stock at Downsview Park with the Rolling Stones was a big crowd.

An estimated 450,000 and 500,000 people attended the concert, making it is the largest outdoor ticketed event in Canadian history and one of the largest events in North American history.

I just remembered Downsview Park also accommodated 800,000 people when Pope John Paul II visited the city in 2002.

I tried to find if any actual emergency orders have issued yet pursuant to this declaration but couldn’t find any; might just be ‘not yet’. I understand wanting to have things already in place to facilitate rapid adjustment to emerging critical incidents.

The extent of Niagara Region's pronouncements.

Hotels are cancelling people's reservations, made up to a year ago.
Reselling the rooms for $1000 to $3000.

Wow. Dicks.

Wow. Dicks.
Yup. The kind of dick move that will make me forget NF for life. I was there in Dec, for our 50th anniversary and to see Jason Bonhom do his Led Zeppelin act. I've been to Clifton Hill years ago. Not anything to make me return. Did a battlefield tour of the Battle of Niagara (Lundys Lane) action. Don't need to do that again. Been to the Falls 3 times & Maid of the Mist. Saw the Butterfly Conservatory. done, done and done. I see no further need to look at or purchase any local kitch. So I see no need to ever return.

----- or -----

I've smoked dope, chewed rope, danced, drank and French romanced. Fucked, farted, fought and shot the moon. Drove big trucks. I've been to Janeville, Maine, Spain, Spokane and Fort Wayne. Been to three worlds fairs, been around the world twice. Looked danger in the face. Seen goats fuck in the marketplace, but I ain't never seen shit like the shit that goes on around this place.

Too bad the place will sell out. Fucking asshole move.

I was there as a kid and did the whole boat thing, it was neat. Went back much more recently for something with work and ended up sitting for a while just a block or two outside of the tourist core. Amazing how quickly it becomes really grimy as soon as you step foot off the main drag.

I think you just described Vegas, Honolulu (specifically Waikiki), and probably a dozen other tourist spots.

Maybe just close some venues, and limit attendance in open areas…

If a City cannot support an activity on its own, then it should hold it, or allow it to be held.
unfortunately, the Falls has no say in where the eclipse is going to occur. That was decided long long ago. The Falls have been identified as one of only a few locations near Toronto with the longest viewing times and clearest sight angles. If they had a choice, I they probably wouldn't issue a permit for it.

Easier just to hop a train to NF and hit the casino.

Wait for the Weather Riots.

Great Lakes/Golden Horseshoe region weather can change drastically in minutes. How are those folks that paid $3K for a hotel room going to react if the weather sucks?

How will the apocalypse watchers get along with the social media eclipse experts?

And you can bet this event is being wargamed for an attack by any number of bad actors.

Yeah, I'd be pulling in all the help I could get as Mayor. Better

Good point.

In the short time I was there we had blazing sunshine, followed by one of the biggest thunder/rain storms I've ever experienced.

Groups of soggy tourists were huddling for shelter inside any building they could get into while avalanches of rain water cascaded down the big hill that is the main street in town.

So, the parts of the US eastern seabord experienced an earthquake today. No real damage and I haven't seen reports of any injuries. Imagine if another happened during the eclipse in an affected area.

@daftandbarmy I'm looking to you for an appropriate .gif.
