Old Accoutrements

Sigh! Not before my time.

Neither was this:

Is there more to this screen capture ? I'd love to see the full context...

It was a small article in the May 1969 edition of Sentinel. I'll dig it out to see if there was anything further. This might take a while because my wife made me put all my stuff in storage after we moved, and I lost the den.

On January 1, 1972, the CF Green uniform became compulsory wear for all regular male members of the CF. Berets were not authorized for wear with CF Greens which would have been disconcerting to Armoured and Airborne soldiers.

Below is a newspaper photograph of a 3 Mech Cdo Guard at Lahr for the Minister of Defence. CAR cap badges on the Green Service Cap was the uniform. The MOD looking like a bag-o-s*** for the occasion.

Canadian Airborne Regiment cap badges, half the troops without parachute wings, and ankle boots not jump boots. 3 Mech Cdo was certainly an interesting chapter in the history of the Canadian infantry.

The Airborne Regiment badge was a sort of flag of convenience allowing both RCR and PPCLI pers to be posted to Germany, as the regimental system had a breakdown whenever the answer to a question can’t be divided by three.

Interesting stuff folks, truly. I find the unification period of the services fascinating.

Interesting times, not one I would have liked to have gone through. It's also interesting that 3 Mech Commando didn't seem to wear collar dogs. Was that a "thing" in those days?
