Ontario Government (Conservative majority), 2025-29

Cool. I didn't know they had bought a PC-24. I didn't know they had multiple 12s, but it seems OPE was first registered on the same date as OPD was last registered. Dunno what that means.

Ford was lamenting that he sold his jet and 'have to fly around on the OPP's "puddle jumpers".

Poor muffin.
At least said puddle jumpers can get into pretty much all Ontario airports, including those tiny provincially-operated ones way up north - if being able to reach all of Ontario really is one of the lenses used to justify the jet buy ;)

Our members are upset:’ Toronto police union speaks out over Gardiner, DVP changes

The head of the union representing Toronto police officers says it is both “ineffective and inefficient” to bring in provincial police to patrol the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway.

As far as I know, City firefighters and paramedics will continue working the Gardiner and DVP.

Union making union noises. They’ll be fine. The Gardiner and DVP are being uploaded to the province and becoming part of the King’s Highway, and that pulls them into OPP jurisdiction same as the 417 through Ottawa. That’s just how she goes.

Same as 400, 401, 403, 404, 407, 410, 427 , 409 ... in and around Toronto.

They all provide a lot of 9-1-1 calls handled by OPP, and muni Emergency Services.

I guess all Metro Police have left is the Allen Expressway. More like a glorified Road.

With Queen's Park taking over the Gardiner and DVP, City Hall will not be able to impose congestion pricing.

TPS Traffic Services is a shell of what it used to be; when they had dedicated traffic units for each District and dedicated 'Parkway" and 'Gardiner' patrols (back in the day, they were the only ones with V8 cruisers). They still show a 'highway patrol' section but I suspect the number of members directly impacted will be very small.

Toronto Fire and Toronto EMS will still respond to these new provincial highways, like they do the others, and will continue to invoice the province for their services.

TPA is responding to a situation that will impact some of its members; albeit a bit dramatically.

More surf and turf news,

OPP detachment to be built at Ontario Place to support upload of Gardiner, DVP.

An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment is set to be built at Ontario Place to support the upload of the Gardiner Expressway and the Don Valley Parkway (DVP) from the City of Toronto to the province.

But wait, there's more!

"A proposed Marine Unit."

Toronto Police and Paramedic Services already operate a Marine Unit.

Last, but not least,

"The first OPP Mounted Unit in Ontario ".

Metro Police already have a Mounted Unit.

Lakeshore GO runs direct between Oshawa and Niagara Falls.

Get off at Exhibition and walk south.

4 to 6 million visitors an annually somehow make it there.

Others take TTC 29, 63, 504B, 509, 511.

Also, UP Express, VIA Rail , Ontario Norhland and other GO line connections out of Union.etc.....

Others drive. If they dont mind traffic.

Metro always handled the Gardiner, DVP, Marine and Mounted.

I guess Queen's Park knows what's best.

Ya, I don't get the Marine and Mounted angle (separate units - not together; although that would make it interesting). If by 'Marine Unit' they mean a 16 footer and a few members who have had the course, then sure, but I'm not sure what the claimed waters would be. As for horses, I have to believe that is some communications dude/dudette dreaming in technocolor and nobody caught it. Either that or somebody writing a Treasury Board submission decided to just throw everything at the wall to see what sticks, and it did, possibly even to their surprise. I suspect that idea will wither on the vine.

The new recruiting process asks the applicants to identify 3 or 5 preferred postings and they do their best to accommodate them. Vacancy rates are high enough pretty well everywhere that it's not that difficult. GTA detachments (Toronto, Aurora, Hwy 407, Mississauga, Whitby and the new one) are attractive to GTA kids. The OPP saves on initial transfer costs, and the GTA being the GTA, they get to satisfy diversity without moving members away from their 'communities'.

Never been a shortage of out of town applicants,

I found it interesting that fire fighters with many years experience with a full-time fire department elsewhere were willing to leave to pursue their “dreams” as they put it and work for Toronto Fire. It made me feel a little bit special that I have been a part of an organization that others envy and want to be a part of as well.
