Ontario Majority Government 2022-2026 (?)

Might be a different story if the threatened LCBO strike happens.
Good point - especially since the polling was done well before the strike story was shared. Also, not liking beer/wine in the corner store didn't seem to affect the allure (at least at the time of the snapshot) of Team Blue Ontario.

There's a case to be made, though, that a strike could help make the case for mo' booze in mo' outlets. I stand to be corrected, but closed LCBO's still leave at least supermarkets with many (if not all) selections available to Mr. & Mrs. Ontario Voter.

Time will tell ...

Not sure why the Ontario Boomers and Golden Genners don’t like the idea of a depanneur selling your fave booze… 🤷🏻‍♂️

Speaking of which ...
Lucky at least wine & beer's available elsewhere :) We'll see how this unfolds ...

I always wonder why unions think this kind of action endears them to the people they serve. It only serves to make the call for diversification louder. They are their own worst enemies.

Meanwhile, you can by a basic still for $100.

Summer liquor chain strike, inflation above target...starting to feel like the '70s. Next will be musicians rediscovering prog rock (for some) and disco (for others).

Ontario PC party is down a member. Doug Ford has just turfed MPP Goldie Ghamari out of Ottawa for cozying up to British far right extremist ‘Tommy Robinson’. A few days back Rebel News brought him into Canada for a speaking tour. CBSA arrested him in Calgary for lying on his paperwork and hiding criminal past… Which given his history of anti-immigrant positions is just darkly hilarious. Anyway, Ghamari met up with him for an online streamed event, and caught serious flak both outside and, it would appear, within the party.

Very safe PC riding, so I don’t think this is Ford scrambling to protect a seat. She just screwed up that badly in contrary to the party’s values.

Some cabinet juggling - according to the piece, "The changes mean Ford now presides over the largest cabinet in history, breaking his own previous record of 36 ministers and associate ministers. The new top table is almost double the size of the premier’s 2018 cabinet of 20 people."

Jill Dunlop has been less than impressive. Then again she might be doing exactly what Ford wants her to do. Sad that we are saddled with such an incompetent govt at the Provincial and Federal level

Paying hundreds of millions to end the contract a year early is part of it; not obliging all vendors to take back containers is another...

I don't know about anyone else, but here, only the Beer Store accepts empties. Their own and the LCBO bottles. I see no reason to change that.

Until such time when there are fewer Beer Stores because a lot of their product is now available at grocery and convenience stores. People aren't going to stockpile then schlepp their empties across town or to the next one.

I understand the uptake of grocery stores expanding sale is the condition of accepting empties. Not only do many simply not want to do it, they have neither the space nor staff to deal with it.

Honestly I have just been recycling my empties for the last couple years. I really don’t drink enough to justify the specialized trip to the beer store and the return is so low in value it’s pointless for me.

I used to stockpile it all and deal with it once every year or two, but the lack of payment makes it not worth taking up the space anymore (70$ last time and that was for 8 large garbage bags worth and a couple hours of my time).

If the deposit went up then I might consider it, but I don’t want that, and at this point it would be nice if they just got rid of the deposit.

Expanding the deposit program to all recyclable containers as is done in other jurisdictions is the solution. Drug Ford turned that off.
