Ive been looking around at a bunch of different site for a patrol sling. They range in about price from 15.00 to 100.00 ive seen. I have looked at CP Gear, Dropzone, Blackhawk etc, But I dont really know what one to get. Im not really worried about the price I just dont want to buy crap. If anyone knows of a good buy or good quality sling id like to know!

Thanks.

Sorry I double posted not knowing it was already sent  Mods can delete. Thanks.

Mod note:  Done!

I highly recommend Blue Force Gear Slings. They are excellant quality, well built and thought out designs and very cost effective. The best part is that you can use the same sling with several different weapons just by changing the adaptors. CP Gear carries them and OneShot carries them.

Do not go with a patrol sling!

Three point slings are outdated.  There is no need for an extra strap of webbing to get in the way of the mag release, charging handle or get caught on stuff.  Also when wearing a sling you want it to go over your strong shoulder and under your weak arm.

The best sling on the market right now is the Vickers Combat Application sling made by Blue Force Gear.  It will fit on the C7A2 and C8 as is, but will adapt to any other weapon with adaptors.  It's a two point sling made for shooting, not garrison.

Dealers include:

1 RCR Kit shop
3 PPCLI Kit shop
CP Gear
Elwood Epps
The Shooting Edge
Target Sports Center
P&D Enterprise

Plus myself of course :D

heck I've sworn by one points for years and even I caved and picked up a vickers (today actually, curse you darren!).
if you do go the one point way; stay away from tag cqc. anytime I ever put the rifle up to my shoulder, the sling would fall right off my shoulder (even when wearing body armour). as well it didn't tend to have the best transition to me. though the bungee is nice to poke guys in the chest with your rifle :D
but the BFG's have always sounded like they're good to go. hopefully I'll get to play with the vickers soon and give a thorough aar for it on here.
I liked the specter (I believe it was made by them) mout sling for when I was patroling. though be wary if you're a shorter guy, if you have to let go of your rifle or bend over, the barrel could meet the dirt (I found that out the hard way). but it's also go a nice fastex clip to it's easy to get the rifle on and off of you without having to attempt to pull the sling off.

Well after looking at the one shot tactical supply site I would like to get the BFG UDC Sling. Only thing is I'm not too sure on what attachments I would need for a regular C7 fixed stock. Also is there anywhere in Edmonton that would sell this sling?

it gives you the option for styles. IE:

universal loop long
fixed sling adapter
Mash hook
push button.

Thank You

pretty sure Darren is the sole supplier for em here in Canada. maybe check out the PPCLI website but other then 1RCR's kit shop, I haven't heard of anyone else carrying these slings in Canada.
sides Darren's service is pretty quick.
Greg

The PPCLI and the RCR site dont include slings. I might just have to go down to the base and check out what they've got . Anyways does anyone know what style I should get?

vickers like they all have said :D
alot of americans (ie in the thousands and I'm not kidding, ask darren) carry this very sling. I've always liked one points and two points. so I thought I'd go back to the world of two points again because everyone keeps talking about this sling.
OR you can pick up a BFG SOC-C sling pack for M16/M4 so that way you're covered for all c7a1, a2's, and c8's.

Derek

There is a shipment in transit right now to 3 PPCLI however right now it's only the Vickers slings. (5 right now so if you want one from there, tell Sgt D right away)

The UDC sling is mainly a single point sling but will do two point as well.  In two point mode it acts the same as the issue two point sling but with the quick release. For a single point sling on the C7 you need a sling plate put on it.  I believe Tango Down makes one that fastens around the stock itself just behind the action.

With the C7 though I would advice against a single point due to the length of the rifle itself.

The Vickers sling will fit on the C7 with the fixed buttstock adaptor.  The SOC-C sling would also be the way to go if you want a 1,2 and 3 point sling that will fit on any weapon out there.

As Yeoman said we are the Canadian and International distributors for Blue Force Gear but we are more than happy to point anyone towards a dealer in their area.

Thanks alot Farmboy/ Yeoman and others on your insight. I will go down to the PPCLI  kitshop and check the vickers out. Geez's they've got to make the c7 with a adjustable stock standard.(C7A2)(C8) Maybe one day in the future. Anyways Thanks again guys.

I used two slings.  Single point sling when I was out doing stuff and a 3 point sling when I was walking around to the mess or kitchen to eat.

I find 3 point slings just way too cumbersome and get in the way when your trying to get your weapon around.

For my one point sling I just grabbed a plastic snap buckle and with paracord attached one end to my c8 and one to my tac vest

Slings are a very subjective issue.

The 2-point Vickers sling which Darren @ One Shot is familar with and carries is an excellent design (although I'm still waiting on mine from him ;) ).  With most 2 point sling designs, it's somewhat difficult to either quickly/smoothly increase or decrease the length of the sling for when you're changing shooting positions.  This sling overcomes that with a very innovative (and exclusive) piece of hardware.  About the only complaint that I've heard regarding the use of 2-point (or 3 point) slings is that some people don't like having a strap that goes around their back or neck.

This brings us to the next major type of sling; the Single Point.

Single point slings are often favored by those who are having to do alot of transitioning from strong to weak side shooting positions, something which you encounter alot of during FIBUA/MOUT/CQB due to the nature of having to clear alot of right angle obstacles.  Within the realm of single point slings, there are two main varieties, those that utilize a web loop which goes around your body and is connected to a strap, which is attached to a single point on your rifle, and those that are just a strap connected from your weapon to your fighting rig.

Regarding the latter, I just finished up a set of single point slings that I'm calling the 'RASP Sling' (Rig-Attached Single Point Sling).  I'm awaiting on some user feedback and once I'm happy that the design meets the user's requirements, we'll get it online and available for sale.

Sorry Matt, it's the fact that I have troops going overseas demanding and paying for the BFG/ Vickers slings, not to mention all the dealers wanting them as well.

I promised MG34 a free one as well because he lost his SOC-C sling when he was over in Astan, however a WO who was deploying took the one I had for him.  I figured he would understand that.

More are one the way though.

Guess what just arrived :D  Coyote only in this box though!!

there ya go.
hopefully I can get some up soon of mine on a c7a2 (in two weeks bug me)

For my part I prefer the old parade sling. Fits well to the C7A2. Simply loop it on your rifle butt. Same result, on strong shoulder under the weakest. Easy to swing on your back when you need both hands.

just my 0.02 cents.

Chimo!

that's alright. but if you're someone thats like me and it in the 5 foot 8 and lower category, grab something (say like a dd) and bend over. watch what your barrel will do.
I've also noticed that sling will tend to slide until it hits the keeper and then well it's stuck until you move it back. not great in a scenario when you've got bullets flying.
it's decent but again there's better things on the market to look into. I'd rather spend the extra cash on a vickers and be good to go. who knows maybe they'll get interested and the unit'll order some (what? I can dream!)
Greg

Yup, that does work with the parade sling.

Same result, not really.

The "single point" parade sling does not control the muzzle of the rifle allowing it to stick in the ground, nor does it allow transitions.

The parade sling does also not adjust to leangth you want with the simple pull or push.

The adaptor on the front (shown in the pic, thanks Greg! ) can be removed and left off the sling, or attched to the back of the sling to allow for other adaptors.  The front of the sling would then be tied in directly to the front sling loop to allow for even more adjustment in the sling.

This sling allow the rifle to be carried similar to a single point sling but give you so much more control of your weapon.

It also comes in colors other than black  ;)

Greg

We are speaking to units about these slings, however since parade and three point patrol slings are issued already.........    ::)

As well with these slings, like most of the other gear we carry, we warranty them for life.  That's right, not only does Blue Force Gear cover their products, we do as well.  Not for 1, 2 or 5 yrs  but life.
