I know that this should probably be in the Weapons section but i thought that id stick it here so as not to annoy the regular posters who get bothered by garbage questions to whos answer would require some one to dig down to the core of the website to attain the answer to.

my question is this: when i join the reserves how can i get issued a pistol? and if its only for officers why is this?

You have a picture of a rifle you can't shoot on your posts, why do you want to be issued a pistol?

Tom

In the reserves.... Pistols are issued during field exercises or range exercises just the same as the C7 service rifle. Although pistols are in short supply and usually only issued to officers or RSO's (Range Safety Officers) and some medics will carry a pistol at times. But we are not issed weapons to keep at all times, our weapons are secured in a vault when not used. So unless you do a range weekend where you're training on the pistol, or are a medic in the field, or an RSO or an Officer in the field, don't count on seeing a pistol.

I know my unit has about 7 or 8, and I don't think one of them even works properly. I think they where all marked N/S during out last ATI inspection by the Petawawa guys.

Hope this helps.

yes, and you can take it home too

::)

Show it to mommy and daddy the way some kid did his C7 the day he got it issued on IAP

thanks for the help guys,
i was mainly asking for the reason of that i was wondering if when you go on tour or do operations does each soldier get issued a side arm? there would be many good reasons for issuing one to each soldier(lol and i know that u cant take it home haha were not the police)

In a Recce Sqn, Crew Commanders get a Pistol and a C7/8.

Tom

thats interesting, so they get the choice of a c7 or a c8? wah thats pretty cool i think i would take the c8

If you are so interested in carrying a pistol there are other elements more apt to carry in then the army. i.e the air crew on an aircraft or a sailor on a boarding party.

Their deciding factor on what to carry in terms of weapons is not based on "what is cool." These people are professionals and have a very difficult job to do...Possibly loosing their life in the process.

Its not a videogame Jerrythunder. Try to bear that in mind please.

Police officers are not permitted to take their pistols home with them, they are secured at HQ

Not necessarily, I know a few members of the police here in Ottawa that are permitted to take their sidearm home.

My bad, I meant regional police services (at least all the regional forces I have known people in), I know that the RCMP, and maybe even the provincial police forces have different regulations.

Oh yeah?

Why exactly?

well,  due to the increasing size of urbanized potential combat zones id rather have the more compact version of an already amazing weapon that has all the attributes of the c-7 and is compact for urban combat. but if you would ask me i would take the G36C, now that is a cool weapon!

I am so glad you are not in Procurement because something strikes you as cool!  ::)
