Well my prediction of Peter McKay going to Justice turned out to be right but who replaced him was not.    This appointment can be interepreted in many ways but for DND, i think more cuts will be on the way.

Well, I think that was a given regardless of who they put in Defence; as long as Harper is still PM and Flaherty is Finance, the various departments will be facing their expected cuts in order to enact the government's promise of an elimination of the deficit by 2015.

Agreed. More cuts are chisled into the stone tablets of the budget (15! 15 Command...SMASH.....10! 10Commandments  :P)

Who is at the helm is rather besides the point right now, it's all about balancing the budget.

Brace yourself in Halifax/Shearwater as the PLD guardian has left the building and i predict change will now be permitted to the PLD. I give it 3 months max before an announcement of a new methodology that will see Hfx cut by at least 50%.

Lets hope not, if they cut it in Halifax they'll cut it everywhere else.

This interesting take from about-to-retire Liberal MP Bob Rae:
.... The switch between Peter Mackay and Rob Nicholson solved two problems. The Defence portfolio is less about building morale and spending money nowadays than it is about managing expectations down. Rob Nicholson is not so much a big-picture guy as he is a dedicated stickler for detail. Rest assured: expectations will go down. Mr. Mackay will now get to dispense the patronage that everyone understands: naming judges. Once a Crown Attorney himself, he knows the challenges, and he also knows that Defence is no longer going to be as much fun ....
