A Canadian military police officer who vanished from his unit for two months, triggering a cross-country manhunt as he changed phones and vehicles to avoid detection, has been sentenced by a military court to a severe reprimand and an $8,000 fine.www.ctvnews.ca
From the sentencing decision it seems there may have been some mortgage fraud complaint involving the family, the wife, and a condo in Vancouver. From the article:
A visit from the RCMP on May 5 prompted Tseng to seek and receive the compassionate leave from which he ultimately failed to return.
Interesting.

The bit where he says he’ll only speak through a “national security lawyer” is really anomalous, and I wonder what other layers there may be to this that didn’t make it to prosecution or sentencing.
CAF members who go awol should be docked pay for every day they're missing. In this guys case that should be 10 weeks pay or 2 to 2 1/2 months pay. At least $18-22k if he's a capt(1).
And then fine him with a reduction in rank.
Forcing him to pick another trade sounds appropriate too. Military Police Officer is one of the few trades where we're above 100% manning. We can afford to lose him.
That wouldn’t be part of the military justice system nor likely to be referred to in the sentencing. I expect his security clearance was reviewed for cause, and I’m sure his file went to the MP Credentials Review Board.Agreed on all points.
What about removal of security clearance too ?
The sentencing notes he expects to release voluntarily next month.Something tells me there is likely administrative actions to go with this. Release is probably in the cards.
The transcript refers to the QR&O volume 3 chapter 208 article pertaining to forfeitures, so the fine would be on top of the repayment of pay.CAF members who go awol should be docked pay for every day they're missing. Mortgage fraud, an unexplained expensive car, working security at a base that's bringing in TS equipment.Wait a second:
“A PORSCHE belonging to Tseng…”
Somebody should be writing National Security warrants, by the truckload.
I would agree and expect that a change of circumstance report was submitted recommending removal of security clearances and his case would automatically go in front of a credential review. That wouldn’t be part of the military justice system nor likely to be referred to in the sentencing. Nothing to see, here…Mortgage fraud, an unexplained expensive car, working security at a base that's bringing in TS equipment.
Where's the National security nexus in that?
So I'm an MP Sgt with 20 years of good service and I'm still subservient to this guy??
