Possible University credits

I'm currently a Sociology/Political Science student at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) in Kamloops BC, with a large interest in most business courses, especially those dealing with Human Resource Management (I’m planning a post-baccalaureate in HRM) and business planning. I'm also currently working with the local Reserve unit, the Rocky Mountain Rangers, as an officer.
Recently I discovered that there is a possibility I could receive Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) credits for the basic Infantry Officer training I have done with the Forces (BMQ, BOTP I & II, CAP and IODP 1.1, Dismounted Platoon Commander). What is required from me is to put together a package of the course material from those courses, and submit it to the instructor of the course(s) I feel are most similar, so they can determine whether or not my Prior Learning is equivalent. A few questions arise from this, and I was hoping for a little help.

1. Has anyone done anything like this before, and if so, how successful was it? I 'd love to be able to point out a highly sucessful precedent. Any pointers or tips would also be appreciated.

2. Where online (on the internet) can I find such things as Training Plans for these courses, if at all? This arises both from my hesitation to spend a great deal of time compiling such data and commenting on it in a meaningful way (i.e. Outlining informally assessed activities which may apply to the course or courses in question) and from my hesitation to just hand this sort of information over to a civilian, not being familiar with the limits of what I am able to release.

3. With the latter point in mind, is there a relevant CANFORGEN regarding this type of release of information? And also, could someone direct me to the relevant sections of the QR&O’s, DAOD or other doctrine so that I don’t accidentally do something I wish I hadn’t?

4. Has anyone heard of or know a Leonard Hutt? He instructs here at TRU, in the courses I feel are most relevant both to the officer training and my degree/planned post-baccalaureate and told me he was previously a serving member of the CF with ten years service, releasing as a Captain, but that’s all I know about him. I’d like to know more; since he may have a part in deciding how I will my next few years will be planned.

I'd also like to point out that if I am successful to the degree that I'm hoping I will be, and if no one has done this before, this will set a precedent allowing other officers to gain credits towards a degree at other (or the same) universities.

Thanks in advance for your help.

With your heavy HRM training, there is recognition as an RMS clerk. This is an NCM trade, but your skills will be acknowledged through the reference (I do not have it with me at home).

Definitely more aligned with Log O (HR & BP), perhaps even with PSelO or PAO with his Sociology & Political studes.

I don't know if this will help you, but we were given a briefing at the end of our POET course on equivalency (sp?) and getting credits for mil courses. The person giving the briefing repeatedly talked about ahuntsic college in Montreal as by far having the most knowledge in all military courses, and that rather then having another school analyze your training, you simply give them records of all you have completed and they grant you the credits seeing as they already have dealt with them many times before. We were told that these are transferable to other institutions, so it might be worth checking out.

The PLAR section at RMC assigns equivalences for Military training - check them out here:

They can probably help you out.
