Hello everyone!
I'm am the sister of the late Private Braun Woodfield. Some of you may know me from Braun's memorial service, or when you left for Afghanistan (i was there with my mom and dad). I'm pretty sure my mother has posted our web site, www.mistyacres.ca which is all about Braun.
This is my first post here, and I didn't know where to put it! So I thought it would be safe here
I really want to give a big shout out to all of you in the military. Seeing my brother's passion for the service made myself want to enter the military (especially if I made it into med school). But unfourtunatly that would break my mother's heart....and her heart has been broken enough. My dad, Dan Woodfield, served in the navy and was a ....left luteninet commander???? I don't know how to spell that at all!!! Plus my uncles Daryl (diver) and Larry (and Milt?) Skaalrud also served in the military. Same with my uncle Freddy and cousin Sean (Alderman) who are both pipers.
Oh yes my shout out, to all of those who were at my brother's services. It was amazingly touching to share his memorial with you. Excuse the fact that I don't know people's ranks/last names, but thank you Robert, Dareen, Christian...PR lady (aahh! I can't remember you name..was it Spanish..?), and all the "higher ups" that were so sweet and warm! You really blew me away, and I had no idea how close and caring men and women in the service are. You made our very dark days a bit brighter.
My brother was amazing, and some of you probably knew him. I miss him, yet still haven't come to terms that he has passed away. It feels unreal to this day. I'm trying to get a tattoo (left upper arm) for my brother...though sometmes I think ,"Braun isn't gone!!!!". It is really hard on the families who know they may loose their loved ones, you, at any time. Braun was gone for a long time, and we didn't have much communication with him while he was in Afghanistan, so when we heard that he had passed away we were all in shock. I feel like he is still over there....or in some secret unit. I just can't wait to see him again when I pass away.....though it makes me so sad to think that the longer my life is the more time I will have spent without him : (
I was also wondering what charities are there were for our military? I was trying to find a way that I could give back to the service men and women. I'm also a RMT and wish there were some way I could organize something with massage therapists for the military.
Anyhow! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post. I appreciate each and every one of you and proudly display my yellow, and my camoflage magnet ribbons on my car!
*hugs* Lyndi, Braunsister
