Problems with feet and training

I have been having problems with my feet since my first course and every course since.

During Basic, I rolled my ankle and had really bad shin splints. At first I thought it was just the issued boots, and since I did not want to redo Basic, I went to get laser treatment on my own time on the weekends to heal faster. I finished the basic training and went on to my next phase. During this training I damaged tendons which took over 6 months to heal. Another course, and I ended up with tendonitis and really painful shin splints. I was told by the doctor that I have very high arches which can cause foot problems including tendonitis and recurring sprains.

So my question is whether I should worry about my future in the military if I keep having recurring injuries with my feet, or whether there is anything I may be able to do?

I am not sure that I want to make it known in case it could mean having to leave the military, but if something can be done to help I would like to know.

Was *the doctor* a military doctor?  Do you have decent insoles in your boots?

If the doctor was the laser treatment provider, and not part of the CF Health Services branch, I will strongly suggest you go to the MIR to see a MO to discuss this.  They can refer you to places like foot clinics/specialists, and can get you things you may need such as custom footwear, orthotics, etc.  I was referred to the foot clinic by a PA during a Pt II about 10 years ago, and the foot clinic hooked me up with orthotics which require custom/LPO boots (fallen arches from years in the old boots and "insoles".

At the very least, try some decent insoles from MEC or Mark's Work Warehouse in your boots.  If you have high arches, the issued insoles will likely do SFA for your feet.

But if you haven't seen a MO yet, I recommend doing that asap.  This will start a papertrail and more importantly, assessment and treatment/correction of anything they find.  :2c:
