I have been wanting to join the army for a long time now but have not been able to get the time off work. My friend told me about something coming up where you go for traning once a week on thrusdays. He said it starts June. I have not been able to find any info on
this but am very much wanting to know more about this for sure. I was wondering if anyone here had any info on this.

summers I am full time. This thursdays thing would work perfect

Have you spoken with your employer about it? Some people and organizations are very supportive about such endeavours and will gladly give you the time you need. (Sadly, some are not)

Go in and talk to your local recruiter.  They will be able to explain your options as well as time-lines to you.  Judging by your initial post you are looking at reserves.  They train once per week and 1 weekend per month  (roughly).  As stated above, summer times can be extremely busy.  A lot depends on how supportive your employer would be.  Usually your initial course would be done in the summer over 4-6 weeks (again an estimate from my reserve time back in '95)  Then  your trade specific course on top of that.  Good luck!

my employer only hires the minimum ammount of people needed to run the place. He will not give a lot of time off. One day a week is pushing it and I really do need the job right now.

The one day a week thing is mostly once you've done all your trade training.  For example you can take basic during weekends starting either fall or winter (depending on when go thru the initial process) or you do basic in the summer on full-time basis.  After basic, then there's SQ & trade course (ex infantry, medic) which are usually fullt-time courses run during summer. (actually i think the SQ is now also on weekends too but can't do that if doing the basic cause they run into each other).

Once you've qualified in your trade, then the minimum obligation is once a week (day depends on unit joined) and a weekend a month.

To begin the joining process, you'll probably need to take days off here & there to get info from a recruiter and for testing, interviews.

Hope this helps!
