I am assuming you mean for the Regular Force.

No one can tell you absolutely how many spaces there are going to be. It depends on attrition rates, plans for changes to manning within the trade or that affect the trade, capabilities of the recruiting system to process trainees in basic and basic infantry training, and priorities between trades for allocation of space.  This will also be adjusted by how many spaces are filled by direct entry candidates from the Reserves (Component Transfers).

I know one of the Training Centre, of three that teach the basic infantry courses, was averaging about 6 platoons of 30-40 soldiers per year, but with prioritization and staffing they could do more if needed. So if that average holds, with three Reg Force regiments, it means about 600-750 (the math is rough) soldiers per year starting basic infantry training. With 2/3 to 3/4 getting to the battalion with attrition in training.

And that number is just that, only a number. The chance of any one candidate being chosen is also affected by how many active files are in the systemn that he/she is competeing against for each selection board. There's really no way to reverse engineer and 'beat" the system, there are too many variables.

Thats it eh? Geez, those positions will probably be filled long before my criminal check even gets back. When do the new years numbers come into play? is it January or does the fiscal year start another time.?

...

I have been through most of the recruitment process (all I have left is fitness test this tuesday). I qualified for everything on the CFAT and did alright on Med/Int. Do they have a spot for me "reserved" in the 60-something remaining spots, or am I still fighting for it? OH and I know if I bomb the fitness test I'm not gonna make it, but for the sake of giving my heart a rest I'd like an answer. Thanks in advance.

These positions will most likely not be filled before the end of the fiscal year and we usual know the numbers in Feb or Mar of each year.

No, there is no spot reserved for you. Pass the physical and you will be merit listed and then you may be selected.

Don't know.  Why?

Just to put the numbers in perspective.  Is it 353 infantry spots being chosen from 500 files, or 5000? Simply knowing that there are x number of spots to a particular regiment isn't a very useful piece of information, unless you know the odds and, probably more importantly, where you are merit listed. 300 sounds great if you're merit listed in the top 100, not so great if you're merit listed in the 500th spot and losing ground as higher rated files overtake you.

Well if there were 353 merit listed people for these jobs then there wouldn't be 353 positions left.   Since there are not enough people applying for Infantry and it took nearly seven months to fill 448 (267 x 3 -353) Infantry positions, there is a very good chance that if someone is merit listed for Infantry they will get a job in the next five months.

Thank you, that is a much more encouraging statement for a potential candidate to consider as they reach that point in the process than trying to second guess chances based on numbers.
