Hello all

I was just on the Strathconas website and it mentioned that C Squadron is converting from a recce sqn to a tank sqn, and that Leopard C2's will be arriving for the sqn soon to replace its Coyotes.  Just wondering, where will these Leos be coming from, were they mothballed ones? :salute:

Hey there cameron
When you quote a source from another site, could you put up the link?  Although most of us here can find the Strathcona site, there are those amongst us who couldn't tell a Strat from a Dragoon.

Hauptmann

"With B Squadron deployed to Afghanistan and A Squadron conducting their workup training, the need to stand up another tank squadron soon became apparent. The early days of November saw rumours flying that C Squadron would be reconstituted to deploy with the 3 R22eR BG as part of Task Force Afghanistan 3-07. Rumour became fact as Recce Squadron leadership began the work of restructuring the squadron from a Reconnaissance Sqn to a Sabre Sqn."

More on link.

As to where the tanks would come from, I suspect that since "15" is the magic number these days, then probably from CMTC.  Of the 114 (or so) original runners, there are now 66 (matched the mythical gun system numbers), and that 66 includes runners at the School.

(from the link)

Newly arrived soldiers from Gagetown who were already D&M qualified on the Leopard C2 immediately began the daunting task of getting the tanks ready for training and deployment.

(I have no idea...)

I would have assumed that any new troops arriving would be using the same Leo's that are already in theatre, rather than exchanging the Leos...  but this seems to indicate that the tanks would be deployed?

IMHO what they mean by that is that they have to get the mothballed ones up and running for training as LdSH when they deployed to the sandbox took the working tanks with them.

How is the 'new and improved' (at least to me) sqn of 15 organized?

4tps of 3 + OC, BC, and dozer

or

3tps of 4 + OC, BC, and dozer

or something else?

Just as a bit more info, the squadron will be augmented by RCD and 12RBC, a troop of each.

Thanks as usual for the speedy and helpful answers guys, and you are so right Hauptmann, I should have posted the link, sorry about that.  Godspeed to C Squadron LdSH, and the other great Canadians heroes overe there in A'stan.  Lets hope now that the powers that be have come to their senses and realize how relevant and potent the MBT still is, and now that Canada is getting the strategic airlift to move them (well if the Libs get back in lets hope they don't cancel the C17s), that we'll get new tanks in the not too distant future.

A question I have that arises from this......... if they re-role into a tank Squadron, what happens to the Coyotes that they currently have in that Squadron?  Will the Strats be keeping them in their Unit lines or will they be dispatched to some other locale?

Just curious

You beat me to it....there is hope for us guys on the east coast that have not deployed yet.

;D ;D ;D

I'm just going to keep showing up there until I find myself gainfully employed. ;)

Originally we were told tank Sqn but now the information is Recce sqn here in Gagetown, along with a 12RBC sqn.

Interesting times to be on the east coast.

Naw....you'll be just another toy for the Armour School to play with.          ;D

You must have been old A sqn here...that's the A sqn response!
Hope not.
However your most likley right...at least the dvr's.

Yepper.....Heavy TSS.        ::)

Well, that was my hope........... That the RCD would be the beneficiary of the extra Coyote's.  Considering we don't even have enough of them to field 3 full Squadrons, let alone this new 'C' Sqn. eveyone keeps mentioning.  At least if they did come to Pet, they'd be put to some good use.  Of course this is speculation but it would be nice to see.

It does my heart good to see our Leo's in action finnally. I can remember a trooper say in Germany when 3 RCR had a troop working with us in Honenfells during workup for reforger, that its the ultimate phycological weapon and is great for "reaching out and touching some". You can hear these beasts coming from miles away, problem is you have no idea from what direction until its to late and you get a HEAT round up your caboose "BAM" ;D

Happy hunting troopers, squash those taliban like the insects they are!
