Are there any former or currently serving members of the Reg. de Hull (Armour Resv. Reg in Hull?)

I have a few questions, but most more notably on the french language side...
Where I am technically bilingual (tested and all that) and work conversationally in it at work (IT support) and can write it, I am not perhaps as fluent as Id love to be.

The Regiment is listed as a "french" language unit, in which I presume the majority of things are said in the french language...  I'm definitely not afraid to practice and improve my french, but am a bit worried about getting yelled at by a WO because I didn't quite catch on to his slang :)

So any suggestions in this area would be much appreciated!
If I get a chance, I will also try to head down to their unit to check it out on a night.

Cheers.

Well I'm not for RdeHull, but as for language goes, you shouldn't worry about it.  If you're english and getting chewed out by some WO, he'll make sure you understand.
I'm in Mtl, in an english speaking regiment, one of my friends (my former brother in law in fact) transfered in from outside of town, a french speaking regiment, to mine, and he's doing just fine.  Higher ups know he's not fluent in english, and both sides are doing good efforts so there's no problems languagewise.  When info is passed on, its made sure that its understood, and so on.  Technically, the whole army is bilingual, so it's like, having a Toronto english speaking fella go to an Government office in say, Thunder Bay, and ask to be served in french.  Why? Beats me, but he's entitled to it.
So really, you don't have to worry about the language issues.  And trust me, if you have problems with french, you'll pick whatever you need up real fast.

I think I can help you there - seeing that I'm a member of the Régiment de Hull.  We are a french language unit, but a lot of the people (most of the cadre) are bilingual.  It's not unknown for us to do some business or have some discussions in english, or even switch between english and french as we go along.  We have had a number of anglophones transfer into the unit and they integrated well.  So, come on down and meet the gang sometime in January.  Our recruiting office is open every Tuesday from 7PM onwards.  We're closing down for the holidays after this weekend, so it'll have to be after New Years.  If you want more info, PM me.

Excellent, thanks to you both for the info!

I'll for sure be heading down in January.... your training nights are Tuesdays? is there another Admin night?

Cheers,

Tuesdays is the administration night.  Other than that, it's weekends (2 per month for the recce sqn)

Does a weekend end up being Friday-Sunday, or Saturday-Sunday?  not that it really matters..

Also, I had heard that since you are on the quebec side, all of your training is done with LFQA/Montreal area units?

Generally Friday to Sunday.  We are part of 34 Bde, which is headquartered in Montreal and therefore in LFQA.  That means yes, we normally train with LFQA units, although it isn't unknown for us to sometimes play with 33 Bde (LFCA) units.

Not sure where you're located, but if a commute to Montreal is "do-able" then you might want to give the RCH a try.  We're an armored recce unit.  Although we're offically bilingual, more people are english than french in the unit.

A commute wouldn't really be doable, unless I was riding along with someone else from Ottawa....

By the way! The major(horse_soldier)was right people speak french and English in the regiment! sometimes they start a phrase in french and then finish it in English!
