Replacing the Subs

One thing I hope for, if it is germany, with doubt about timeline, I hope the contract has a penalty for delay clause. Hit them with significant penalties for each month of a delay
Mmmm….the Maritime Helicopter Project Office would like a word about that…

when does boat 5 arrive? 2040? 'cause there are a lot of other orders to resolve.
Not sure but they are in the process of starting a 2nd production facility. Not aware of the timelines of when boats will start rolling off the 2nd line.

Noah's comments on this.

EDIT: Please note that any timelines around delivery that Noah discusses is 6 months old and should be treated with caution.

I think the likelihood of a Gripen purchase has gone down substantially with this announcement, giving Europe a big win.

I predict an announcement that LM will get the remaining 88.

I think it’s the exact opposite, this might be the sign the PMO is going full euro, nato, and tech transfer. TKMS was offering a lot more of that than the Koreans. Time will tell though.

listening to the announcement, interesting that the PM emphasized, and called out that if negotiations dont go the way Canada want's, we reserve the right to turn around and go to the koreans instead. Keeping the door open that the TKMS team cant mess around.

Carney just said - 4 subs by 2034 - that's a mistake or did something happen to move up the delivery dates?

This is standard procurement stuff, just like how we kept Saab on the backburner even after they lost to Lockheed Martin.

From what we have seen in the public sphere, both bids were very comparable in what they offered. I don't think TKMS had an advantage over the Koreans, atleast for what was spoken about in public.

Not sure who told him that but that's laughable given the situation the Germans and Norwegians are dealing with, sounds like we're getting taken for a ride Saab style.

Remember that TKMS is standing up Wismar for 2nd fully functional production line - I've got no clue on the timelines but they have been very open about that need.

The RCN and the RNN? (Royal Norwegian Navy) will have alot of 'plug and play' in the future. Both will have the Type 26 and now the Type 212CD. That's alot of overlap.

There was also an MOU signed in April that could see TKMS submarines built in Spain.

Ok, I not a big fan of that timeline. Also why does it seems that they're already trying to cut down the number.

'Sigh' I'm not trying to be one of those people that goes auto 'liberals don't do anything to actually help the arm forces' but this is not picturing a good image of them.

Well they have about a year to sign a contract by the sounds of it, otherwise it's Hanwha's show.

Perhaps this is a weird way to appease both?
