Requirements for a Chest Rig

I know I can be beating a dead horse. But what is the requirements for after market chest rigs these days?  (example: brand, color, pouches, plate carrier, soft armour) Is Coyote Brown a no go since the conflict in the box is "whining down"? What about the new fade of Mutli Cam?

I'm not in a Battalion yet, so I wouldn't know, personally. If it is worth my investment. Of course I seen all the rigs out there with CF members owning them.  I've always believe in soldier first, tradesmen second. So train as you fight is what I  say.

Sorry if this has been beaten before. The search function gives me a little bit of information on the issue on the direction I want.

Regards,
TN

I would stay away from multicam,  just go with something that isn't going to stand out as much ie CADPAT, OD or Coyote Brown.

Buying your own soft armour, and plate carrier would be a no go, as the only authorized* PPE(AFAIK) is the issue FPV with it's soft armour and the issue plates. * exception for CP and CANSOF as they get issued different kit.

As for wearing non issue rigs, depends on the unit, but for the most part if you are training in Canada and not doing pre-deployment training don't expect to wear it.  Only guys I've seen(within PPCLI) that can usually get away with it is Recce and Snipers, and the occasional guy in a Rifle Coy depending on the excercise and who's around.  I know some Reserve Infantry units allow non-issue rigs as well.

I can speak only for my particular reserve regiment- our rule of thumb is if it's green/CADPAT and not stupid, you're good to go. We're given no trouble for wearing our own rigs on exercises, and nobody up the chain seems to have any particular beef with it.

Same goes for mine.

Check with your chain of command though. We're always told if we're wearing aftermarket kit, to keep our issued stuff in follow on kit in case some general shows up or something. That's our house rules. If someone decides to have issue with it in a particular locale, we can quickly swap back.

This is relatively new for us though, since over 50% of our unit has been in the sandbox, they all have their rigs still, including very high ranking members with a say in such things.

That being said, with your blank profile we can't really cater this information to you, but of the guys I've talked to in all three RegF regiments, none of them are allowed something other than the Tac Vest.

I've never carried enough stuff on exercise that the tac vest was insufficient anyway, extra stuff just goes in the daypack. Save your money for other things you'll get actual use out of.
