I'm sorry I already posted this question on another board but it was on a sub-board that did not get a lot of viewing.

Turns out that I may end up going to the University of Waterloo (co-op) and am wondering what infantry units are in the Waterloo area. Because it is co-op, I will still be sent to Toronto to work a couple terms a year allowing me to parade with my original unit. When I am not working and in Rez, is there any way that I can temporarily attach to another unit? Btw this may be over a span of 5 years. Thanx.

The Highland Fusiliers of Canada (HFofC) are part of 31 CBG. Their HQ is in Cambridge, and they have an outlying coy in Kitchener. To the west is 4 RCR in London, to the north the G&SF in Owen Sound/Barrie, to the east the Lorne Scots in Brampton/Georgetown, and to the south the  Argylls and RHLI in Hamilton. And make sure to process your attachment properly through your home BOR-start early! Good luck!

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply. :)

So if I do attach to Fusiliers, could it still be possible to go back and forth between units say, every 2-4 months? Or would I have to stick to the unit I will be staying with the majority of the time?

sorry about the million questions, thanks again

On a related note, if you're willing to be away from an inf unit while at Loo, I believe 48 Field Engineer Squadron is up and running.  Not sure what an infanteer would do in an engr unit but just trying to open up other possibilities.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there's only 2 units in the K/W area...

Do yourself a favour, and go to the RHFC.

Not only are they Highlanders (which is important), but I know the CO and he is a good man.

The unit is doing extremely well under his leadership. You will find lots of opportunities for training and employment. And, you'll even get to work with The Argylls every now and then, which is always a good time.

As for moving from unit to unit -- don't worry about it.

In fact, that was one of the mistakes I made when in university, is that I did not know about how flexible the army reserve is. As a result, I waited until I was done university to join (big mistake!).

The benefit to the reserves is that you may be in one unit, but if you go away (say to Ottawa), you can just train with the local unit. You can then rejoin your home unit when you come back. There is no need to re capbadge (meaning, you formally join the other unit).

Employment is always there for you.

Email me at [email protected] if you need more info.

Thanks for all the info, that's what seems to be the best option for me if I decide to go to U of W. I still just want to make sure I am spending sufficient time back at the Queens Own (cmon, its my "home" :D lol) . This will all be decided by the end of the month after the Universities review midterms and all (wish me luck!). Until then...
