Reserve question: VR before finishing school?

I’m in the Army Reserves, finished BMQ but haven’t done my DP1 yet. I’m going into my last two semesters of school this fall/winter and won’t have time to commit to the military until after I graduate in May.

The reason I’m considering to release is because I don’t want to be dead weight on my unit for the next 8 months, and I know I won’t be available for most parade nights or weekends because I work a part time job as well.

Would I be able to VR now and then reapply after school? Or would that just make things harder when I try to get back in?

Anyone been through something similar?

Ask for ED&T. It will prevent you from being NES but you still remain part of your unit. Once you finish school you can go right back to parading or start FTSE.

Yes, ED&T is the right answer. Just be aware that the CO can only grant 180 days in a 365 day period, so anything more would have to go to the next level, which could slow down approval.
