Afternoon,

I am a recent university graduate with a BA in history (no many relevant employment prospects). I have been doing a bit of research for a while now and I am thinking of joining the reserves and potentially signing a regular contract later on. My questions are: 1. Can a reservist be eligible for officer training (this might be a obvious/ dumb question, but I honestly have not found a complete answer to this) 2. What are the opportunities for a reservist to gain further training and volunteering for deployment/missions overseas?
So basically I have been considering joining the regular forces but am not sure I am ready for the commitment.

Thank you for any answers you can provide.

Good day,

The educational requirements are the same for the Primary Reserve force as they are for the Regular Force for all occupations. I suggest that you use the following link to search for Primary Reserve units in your area as the occupations available to you depend on the occupations offered by those units in your area. You can also use the browse jobs section of the Forces.ca website to find out the educational requirements of the officer occupations available.

The Canadian Armed Forces are currently on a low operational tempo and overseas deployments are few and far between for the Primary Reserve Force. Use the following link for a look at current overseas operations and the number of individuals deployed.
