Reserve Training

I know that in the reserves, courses are either taken all at once in the summertime or you can take them on weekends etc.

My question is to do with when you take a course all at once. I could be wrong on this, and correct me if I am, but here in Calgary, I wouldn‘t think they have the resources to keep a courses participants there overnight in barracks. How does this work? If I take a one month course, do I have to drive home every night and wake up early the next morning and drive back? This seems kind of inefficient. Or do we and other reserve groups have the facilities to house training sioldiers for a month or two at a time?

On a side note, I‘m going to see a recruiter on Friday. Hopefully I can get everything underway soon.

On my BMQ this summer, we stayed in the barracks (Rather the basement thereof) at CFB Edmonton for the duration. About half the people where from Calgary.

Ah, I see, so if one happens to choose to take the course all at once, those people in cities without the proper facilities will be shipped out to places that have them. Interesting. Thanks Korus.

One other question that just came to me is if courses are offered during winter and summer and i‘m assuming a lot of the course is outside, are those taking the course during the winter at somewhat of a disadvantage being out in the cold and whatnot?

^Think of it as an early indoctrination to winter warfare.

I did my BMQ during weekends and I slept on cots inside the armoury. No big deal.

If you can hack training in the winter months, then you can do it during any season. Winter training sucks, but wars don‘t stop in the winter. Winter training can really kill morale, but like I said, if you can stick it out and keep your spitits up, then you are good to go.

As for a course, you may sleep in the Armouries. If in the field, be it a crew tent, hooch, vehicle or just your BIV bag.
