reservists in CANSOFCOM (Split from CSOR thread)

no need for a component transfer. From the same Rumint sources, JATF openings for the Reserves are going to be run the same as for JTF. No differences. And as to language: Rumint sources say that they must be proficient in English, but not necessarily their first language.

Why not just force a component transfer?
Good Question.   A BE is only three years.   We have many soldiers who don't make it to a second BE, so why would hiring a Reservist via an OT in this manner be any different?

OK, so if johnny reservist signs up for the JATF, passes the medical, the course, and is posted to Pet, he would be signed on for a four year hitch.

SOAC qualified Reservists at The Hill do four years.  Nothing says JATF will follow that lead.

In any case, I'm looking forward to the formative months of JATF.  No matter where it goes, or how, I think  it will be a breath of fresh air for the Combat Arms.

"IN KEEPING WITH CDS PRINCIPLE SIX, WHICH CALLS FOR CLOSER INTEGRATION OF REGULAR, RESERVE AND CIVILIAN PERSONNEL IN THE EXECUTION OF ASSIGNED MISSIONS, RESERVISTS WILL BE INTEGRATED INTO NEW ESTABLISHMENTS THAT HAVE BEEN OR WILL BE CREATED AS PART OF CF TRANSFORMATION, IE:....CANADIAN SPECIAL OPERATIONS FORCES COMMAND (CANSOFCOM)."

So despite some earlier discussion, there will apparently be some Reserve positions established right from the get go.

Journeyman: that CANFORGEN refers to the HQs for the various new comands.  However, CSOR will also be open to reservists.  CANFORGEN 195/05 states, in part,

3. PERS FOR THIS JOINT UNIT WILL BE RECRUITED FROM ACROSS THE CF, INCL PRIMARY RESERVE PERS. THE UNIT WILL BE COMPRISED OF TWO CATEGORIES OF PERS:

And further detail in para 7D:

RES F CAT 1 APPLICANTS MUST BE PREPARED FOR A RESTRICTED RELEASE AGREEMENT OF A MIN OF 3 YRS SERVICE AND BE PREPARED FOR COMPONENT TRANSFER TO THE REGULAR FORCE ON COMPLETION OF THE CDN SPEC OPS REGT TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT CRSE.
